Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor may just be our surprise hit game of the year. I tried to take the review sample from Zoe to see what all the fuss was about, and instead walked away with bite marks and scratches after a pair of cats were summoned to attack me. Some people hey? By now, you’ve probably worked your way through the Nemesis system entirely, and need a new diversion to keep your interest in the game. Well how about some free DLC then?

Because that’s exactly what you’re getting. The Power Of Defiance DLC pack should be live and free right now on the PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions of the game, which will allow you to play as Elvish royalty and test your might in a new challenge mode. Here’s the full list of content, gleaned, copied and pasted from the press release below:

The free Power of Defiance bundle includes the following upgrades:

Play as Lithariel, daughter of Lady Marwen, Queen of Nurn

Test of Defiance Challenge Mode

Players face the ultimate test to their warrior prowess as they defeat Sauron’s Warchiefs without cheating death or relying on the power of the Wraith.

Epic Rune – Defiant to the End

Players gain an additional Last Chance to return to the fray in combat.

There’s most likely a massive back-story attached to this character, which Zoe will proceed to recite if she hears about this. Send help. Please, like light the signal fires and get me a singing hobbit or something. Anything.

  1. Free DLC! That’s madness! This is awesome. Now I have to spread the word before they decide to change their mind.

Saw this earlier, seriously nice of WB to be doing this. Imho I don’t think I’d pay for a DLC to this game since it’s not something I’ll play over and over again, but this is a really nice addition.

Yes, it’s a nice thing for early adopters of the game – and if they dig the free DLC then they might just pony up a few $ for the paid DLC too. Good all around.

I was wondering yesterday why Steam downloaded this huge update for Shadow of Mordor. Now I know why.
