RemotePlay

Through a streaming app! Game streaming is become more prevalent. And I don’t mean streaming from some magical cloud, like Onlive or PlayStation Now. I’m talking about streaming games within your own home. Thanks to Steam’s in-home streaming, gamers can stream from their super powerful desktop PCs, to their TV-connected laptops and, depending on their network connections, enjoy high resolution, lag-free gaming from the couch. Soon, there’ll even be a bit of dedicated hardware by way of the Steam Link to let you do that.

The Xbox One will soon let players join in, by streaming their Xbox One games to their PC’s – even within virtual 3D rooms if they have the requisite headsets. Sony’s in on that action too, with its remote play, which lets players stream their PlayStation 4 games to their handhelds. It’s why I was so keen on the PlayStation TV, Sony’s little micro-console. It’s a pity that turned out to be less than awesome, because I’d really love to be able to stream my PS4 games to my office – and not have them looking and playing like ass.

There’s a standalone, hacked-together app coming that may let that happen. An enterprising chap is busy making an unofficial remote play app for Windows PCS – and it already looks like it works rather well – with customised controls, allowing for mouse and keyboard use, or any other controllers that don’t work on the PS4. It’s a bit laggy now, but I certainly hope that it ends up working better than the PlayStation TV ever did.

Take a look:

Says twisted0ne1989:

I’ve got a basic GUI implemented along with hardware accelerated video and V-Sync so the video is very smooth (doesn’t look as good on here after conversion). I’ve also added in new dynamic controls with profiles that allow for any mapping of the controller so keyboards, mice, controllers even joysticks if you like!

I don’t get it. Why not just buy it on PC, which is cheaper, and then turn the graphics settings to the lowest possible? 😛

Is Ps TV remote play worse than remote play on vita? I really want to play ps4 in my upstairs room without having to move my ps4, but I hate the vita controls.

Depends, how far does your router signal go? Otherwise you’ll lose connection every other minute.

This is great news! I wonder how long it took to design an app that could play PlayStation 4 games on the PC? I wonder how the PlayStation streaming services will adapt to this news?
