PlayStation 4 climbs back to the top of the sales charts

Ps4

Last month, Sony asserted that it had “won” the February NPD hardware sales numbers – when in fact, that honour went to Nintendo’s shinier, newer, more three-dee-er New 3DS. For March though? They’re back on top.

“We are truly honored PlayStation 4 is the top-selling console and No. 1 in software sales again according to NPD sales data for March 2015,” a spokesperson for Sony Computer Entertainment said in statement. “PS4 remains the cumulative sales leader both globally and in the United States and we want to thank gamers worldwide for their ongoing support.”

The NPD only covers physical, retail sales, making it increasingly irrelevant every month – save for the hardware sales. You can’t download consoles. Here are the software charts though, which show that in the realm of AAA games, shooters still reign supreme in sales. Battlefield Hardline is still at the top of the list.

  • Battlefield: Hardline (Xbox One, PlayStation 4, 360, PS3, PC)
  • Bloodborne (PS4)
  • Grand Theft Auto V (Xbox One, PS4, 360, PS3)
  • Mario Party 10 (Wii U) (sold 290,000 copies physical and digital, according to Nintendo)
  • Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare (PS4, Xbox One, 360, PS3, PC)
  • MLB 15: The Show (PS4, PS3)
  • Minecraft (360, PS3, Xbox One, PS4)
  • NBA 2K15 (PS4, Xbox One, 360, PS3, PC)
  • Borderlands: The Handsome Collection (PS4, Xbox One)
  • Final Fantasy: Type 0 HD (PS4, Xbox One)

Digital sales are harder to come by, but the folks at Superdata are trying to make digital sales available. According to them, Bloodborne has sold 155 thousands digital copies, while Hardline has moved 425,000 digital units across all of the platforms it’s available on.

It’s good, really good. That targeting is a bit iffy. Each team member has a different weapon so before mission 2 I’d head over to the arena and try everyone out just so that you’re prepared. For instance one girl uses a flute which is more for buffing allies while the other use a huge mace tat takes forever to swing.

Oh but Gambit from X-Men had playing cards. That is more believable than a flute. Unless the flute player can lead all the enemies to large bodies of water so they can drown themselves. 😛

When it comes to console games, retail sales are still very much relevant. If you are talking about PC games where DRM is forced and PC games are just an extension of the digital distributions, then you can see why PC retail games are becoming irrelevant.
But console games are still very much relevant.

Don’t Support DRM. The Witcher 3 is coming. I wonder how much the Witcher 3 will sell. It’s not a mass appeal game. But all indications points to good sales. Let’s hope everything translate into sales.

It’s true that it might not appeal to everyone, especially the storytelling and feel of the game, and granted CDPR doesn’t have the stupid amount of marketing support EA gives their developers’ IP’s, but CDPR communicates well with their fans and have come a very long way since The Witcher 1, so I believe now that their most ambitious game went multi-platform shit’s about to get very real. My 2 cents? It will sell really, really well. Enough to garner enough attention to pave a golden way for Cyberpunk 2077.

CDPR has been working their ass off. I mean they have been going to like every single gaming show the world had to offer. They were even here in South Africa promoting The Witcher 3. They might not have the marketing money that Rockstar puts into GTA but they sure did work hard to get The Witcher 3 known, all around the world. Awareness of The Witcher is at an all time high.

Yes with console release they going to see big sales numbers. So yeah shit is getting real. Wish them the best of luck. And get to working on Cyberpunk 2077 already, damn it.

Any game on sale online under R500 is going to cost you less than when you are trading in a new one(R800 new, trade in for R300 and that means you pay R500). If you have uncapped internet off course. But I also prefer physical to be honest.

    Battlefield Hardline PS4 – 759 286
    Battlefield Hardline Xbox One – 473 860
    Battlefield Hardline PS3 – 107 586
    Battlefield Hardline Xbox 360 – 66 535
    Battlefield Hardline PC – 25 753
    = 1433020 retail copies.

Well, I can’t speak for everyone, but exclusives apparently DO work. I was meaning to get a new console and leaning toward Xbone just because I played almost exclusively on 360 but when Bloodborne was announced I sat on my hands for almost a full year and bought the PS4 instead. Now I’ve got both Dark Souls 2 for PS4 and Bloodborne. If I had bought a bone I would have only had Dark Souls 2 next gen.

Since these new consoles has been out, there has only been one game that is the best so far. Bloodborne.
Xbox One still doesn’t have a game that is good enough.
I’m even talking about exclusives here. Bloodborne has been the best game so far since new consoles. Well The Witcher 3 is coming and will be a must have. But a few games are coming that could be really good. But as it stands, Bloodborne, The Last of Us, GTA 5.

Next month no other game can compare.
