Move

A newsletter sent out by Incredible Connection has revealed the local pricing and availability of Sony’s imminent motion controller, Playstation Move. According to the retailer the device will sell for quite a bit less than anticipated when it finally reaches our shores.

The start-up bundle, including the Move wand, the necessary Playstation Eye camera and a demo disc will retail for just R699.95, with standalone wands for just R449. This is pretty darned reasonable pricing – and at that price point I’m much more likely to get Move at launch than Kinect, which launches locally at a price of R1999. There’s no word on what the sub-controller might cost though – but a standard Dual Shock will suffice for its purpose.

The accessory will be available from September 15.

Thanks to Uberutang for the tip.

Very Nice! Looking much more appealing than Kinect each day.

if you want to play 2 player, which the majority would in south africa then it will probably cost more (sub controllers inc.) than kinect. For the hardcore who play multiplayer over the internet, the price point is not bad. But then again, kinect is purely aimed at the casual, so pricewise kinect still wins imo if comparing the 2 competing in the casual market. but Its really a question of ‘which one is more of a ripoff?’

SK are smart, this will shift way more PS3’s than Kinect will Xbox’s now

Total price for 2 player experience is R699 + R499. You can use your current DS controllers instead of sub controllers. Even purchasing sub-controllers at an estimated R300 each, it’s still cheaper.

As Kinect can only actively track 2 people playing.

So it’s R1100 for 2 players. What about the cost of sub-controllers?

    Same to same

On a side note: SK have being pricing the PS3 aggressively locally thus forcing the Xbox 360 Elite and Super Elite bundles to go down below R3000 in some instances.

Im really impressed with this pricing as well, hmmmmmm this is going to make things interesting.

Kinect won’t do 4 players at once, but at the same time, I never did 4 players at once on the Wii because it was just too much to go and buy 2 more controllers over the two I already had, and its the same for the Move, I dont see myself going out and buying 4 controllers.

What they all do, which is going to be the most common, is allow for up to four players, but with people sharing controllers, or in Kinect’s case, swapping positions.

The only time it will cost more than Kinect is if both players needed 2 controllers (or if you wanted 4 people which Kinect doesn’t support).

It’s weird because this pricing is pretty much exactly what I expected but I’m still surprised by it!

I think with a competitive market you might be able to get the costs of the starter pack and Move at R1000.

Sounds like I might just jump on the Move ship. The pricing hits the sweet spot, because it’s cheap enough to check out the demos, and not feel like you’ve just been sexually assaulted by a hobo if it’s terrible.

This is where Microsoft should take a page from Sony’s book, if Kinect was released for under R1000 (sheesh even R500), I would gladly buy it.

Are you listening Microsoft? I, Bobby Kotick, would get kinect if it was under R1000.

But surely holding a ds3 in one hand is not comfortable? I know you can use the ds3, but are you going to want to?

I didn’t see that the ps eye comes with a wand for R699. Thats lekker!

That’s where it helps if your friends own the console too… they can bring their own move controllers.

Im not complaining about the price i think its great but i should warn you guys that if Incredible Connection lists Move at that price then it will probably cheaper everywhere else. I would wait for pricing from Kalahari before placing my order because IC ridiculously overprice games and sometimes even hardware at times. I mean Kalahari is selling a standalone PSEye for R200 at the moment which is cheaper than anywhere else.

I just read the e-mail and it says the stand alone is R449 not R499 like you posted. I just thought youd like to know so you can edit.

@AC!D not all games are overpriced at IC. You’ll be surprised that they sell most of their games at recommended retail pricing and often have those bargain bins. We always going to shop around, but with IC breaking the news and local pricing for the Move, we definitely gotta give them kudos for that!

Heads up guys. As predicted the Playstation Move controller is going even cheaper and is up for Pre Order at Take 2 for R389 stand alone and R614 for the starter pack. Still nothing on Kalahari.

Sorry just another update on my previous post ( No edit button 🙁 ) I found the pricing for the sub controller on Take 2 also R301. Im a bit disppointed with the subs price. It seems a bit steep when you compare the tech in the Move vs the tech in the sub. Anyways its still better than i expected.

    http://bit.ly/b2gadv

So basically you can get a starter pack + a 2nd Move controller + 2 subs for R 1600. Or if you can skip on the Subs since you can use the the dualshocks instead or you can get a starter pack ( which contains one camera + Move ) + a 2nd Move for just under R1000.
