PlayStation Plus’s DriveClub delayed until further notice

Here in my car, I'm as safe as can be in cars doo doo doo

If you’ve been griping about the current lack of bigger budget games on PlayStation Plus for a while now, I can’t say that I blame you. While the monthly indie games are treasures that do deserve more eyes and hands on them, as a consumer you’re wanting something that really justifies your purchase of a membership. DriveClub was supposed to be that game that would help sell itself and PS Plus. But it’s been delayed until further notice.

That’s according to Sony Worldwide boss Shuhei Yoshida, who took to Facebook to explain what’s going on with the free version of the game:

I wanted to provide you with the latest update on DriveClub. Unfortunately, the road to launch has been a little rocky, and we are truly sorry that so many of you have not been able to enjoy everything that we had hoped DriveClub would deliver.

We have been listening to your feedback and realize that patience understandably is running out. Evo is working around the clock to close the gap, and we have deployed additional engineering resources to help resolve the remaining issues as soon as possible. Unfortunately, the time frames required to roll out the fully connected experience will be longer than anticipated and we do not have an exact time frame for when they will be resolved.

We are also very conscious that we have disappointed so many of you who were looking forward to playing the promised PS Plus Edition. Our first priority is to provide you with the best possible experience while playing DriveClub. With the high volume of new players and additional server load the PS Plus Edition is anticipated to bring, we are currently not confident that we can guarantee the best online experience.

Until we can ensure that everyone can enjoy the full social connected online experience, we will be postponing the release of the PS Plus Edition until further notice.

DriveClub was originally meant to launch on PS Plus on October 8. But that was put on hold as Sony and developer Evolution Studios put that version of the game on hiatus. And it’s soul-crushingly painful to behold the game in its current state. As a barebones racing title, it’s remarkably solid and bound to attract a following. But it’s built around that entire social factor, which just isn’t taking off at the moment in the way it was envisioned. It’s like ordering a hamburger and getting a delicious bun without the patty inside.

A part of me refuses to believe that Evolution Studios wasn’t prepared for this, as they are more than competent enough to handle such a game and launch. In other words, something ain’t kosher in the state of Sony. Still, you can grab a retail copy of the game, if you’re aching for some driving action on your PlayStation.

Stop blaming servers! The problem is with the coding! EVO Studios be like: it’s the servers (180) it’s the code (180) it’s the servers (180) it’s the code. NO ONE CARES ANYMORE! You’re game failed, better luck next time! One good thing is I hear people are apparently actually getting their money back if they should so choose! Grab your refund and wait for Project Cars! ????

It’s just a lame ploy by Sony to pull the “demo” version to push the sales of physical and bundled copies. Sony have such a large market share that they can do as they please.

They can’t pull this for long. With the upcoming December Xbox One discount bundles, many will trade their existing PS4 games towards a Xbox One.

I’m still on the fence for the Xbone, but heck I said the same last year about the PS4 last year too. One thing is for sure with Sunset Overdrive and Halo MCC Xbone is gonna have a GREAT festive season!

Get a Xbox One bundle without Kinect, get XBL Gold of course and EA Vault, all the “free” games will “pay” for the Xbox One!

Is it worth making a DRM message. Like a message to all those online DRM games coming up. Let me not bother. The Witcher 3 is coming

Really sad this game’s main feature – i.e. it’s social aspect – is so broken… I was really keen to try it out. Now, me thinks I’ll just wait for it to either get a lot cheaper (like 70% or more, to be honest) or just move on…

Besides, Project Cars is coming! 🙂

Project Cars has been delayed to next year mate. So my suggestion is get NFS Rivals preplayed. Its a much better game than this POS.

Yup – I know about Project Cars delay. But would rather wait for it before spending any money on DriveClub.

Also, gave up on the NFS series years ago – in my opinion, they just lost the plot! I’ve literally tried them all at a friends place and they’re all just meh… Could probably get it cheap cheap, but I really don’t wanna be disappointed again by another mediocre racing experience…

        NFS – bring back Underground!!!

I’ll be honest, here is DriveClub in a nutshell… Take PGR Kudos system with broken physics, awkward handling mechanics, unrealistic AI and coat it with the beauty of Project Cars graphics… Then to finish it of, gently sprinkle it with the newly released PS4 Singstar server problems.

          TAAAADAAAA!! DriveClub.

lol. 🙂 Yeah, I think I’ll just stay away from DriveClub… Wait for Project Cars next year rather and just enjoy the older racing games on my 360 for now (Forza 4 and Horizon) – now those are racing games!

            October 31, 2014 at 10:36

Oh, and possibly The Crew… Although I ain’t pre-ordering – wanna wait and make sure that it doesn’t collapse under its own weight like DriveClub did.

I was super keen to play the the full full game, then I played it at rAge, then got super keen for the PS Plus edition. Now i dont give a rats arse about Driveclub anymore.
Project cars and The Crew are my racers until GT7 finally arrives

Man that is so unfortunate for them. As article says I cannot believe they didn’t do some testing but clearly something went HORRIBLY wrong in that code. It is a shame as little I played was fun.

But to have a “social” game with no social interaction – well that doesn’t work either!!!
