While you may not be able to get your excited hands on Sony’s shiny new handheld in time for Christmas – unless you live in Japan - it won’t be too a long a wait for us in the western world. Destructoid reports that Sony’s Jack Tretton announced the international release date of the PlayStation Vita at yesterday’s Web 2.0 Summit.
So when will you be able to get one? Start saving up, because it’ll be available from February 22 next year. The release date has been confirmed for all territories outside of Japan – including Africa, the Middle East and Australasia. In the US, the console will retail for $249.99 for the WiFi only version and $299.99 for the 3G model. The European launch prices will be €249.99 and €299.99 respectively. There’s no indication of what the local price might be when it does land on South African shores, but with the our Rand being so volatile at the moment, anything right now would likely just be conjecture.
There’s also no indication of what the device’s launch titles will be – but it’s already got over 100 games in development, and includes the likes of Lumines (Yaaay!), Wipeout 2048, Resistance :Burning Skies, Uncharted: Golden Abyss, Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, Assassin’s Creed, FIFA, and a handheld Call of Duty.
