Scary as it is to think about, most people who discovered Pokemon back on the Nintendo Game Boy are now in their late 20s to 30s.
So, it is about time that someone create a more adult themed Pokemon concept. Ray Bruwelheide has done just that in his awesome Pokemon Noir webcomic. I actually really hope that Nintendo picks up on this and creates an adult oriented game for Pokemon players. It might always be a franchise for kids, but they could capitalize on the aging demographic of loyal fans.
Here is an excerpt for your enjoyment.

I like the comic a lot. It focuses more on the people living in pokemon world and shows just how dangerous Pokemon really are. The problem with trying to make this translate into a more mature video game, is that it’s very impractical. Pokemon like Gulpin, Sharpedo, Spoink, Combee and Vanilish have no real anatomy which will make it difficult to bring into a world that is not as whimsical as the current version. The designers can get away with floating lanturns and violent ice-cream in the “child” version of Pokemon, but it won’t translate very well into a more real, adult version.
While I think this is a great concept, I also think that creating an adult Pokemon game is actually just aimed at adults who are closet Pokemon fans and too chicken shit to play it because the game is generalised as a child’s game.
