WHAT YEAR IS IT Pokemon GO

Pokémon GO was first unleashed way back in July, but only to a handful of countries. Since then, Niantic Labs have been slowly rolling out the addictive AR title across the rest of the world.

We’ve long been excluded, but now, after nearly three months  of waiting (holy hell, has the game been out that long?), Pokemon GO has finally made its way to South African shores! WHAT YEAR IS IT?

Trainers in Kenya, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Rwanda, Seychelles, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, Chad, Gabon, Sao Tome and Principe, Egypt, Morocco, Botswana, Namibia, South Africa, Swaziland, Benin, Burkina Faso, Cape Verde, Cote d’Ivoire, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Mauritania, Niger, Sierra Leone, Togo, fill your backpack and get ready for a hike! Pokémon GO is available to download from Google Play and iTunes!

This news will of course mean nothing to you if you already downloaded the game from another territory way back when. For those who’ve been holding out for an official release however (all five of you), welcome to the Pokémon club. Expect lots of Zubats, and a mountain of grinding ahead once you hit level 20.

Oh, and expect to never hold/take a gym, at least not for a long time. Seeing as other trainers have had a head start of, I don’t know, around a dozen weeks, you’re going to have a real tough time toppling their Pokémon. If you plan on attempting a takeover, I’d strongly recommend bringing a couple of friends along for the ride, and a ton of revives and healing potions too.

Also, remember to choose Instinct when you’re prompted (that happens at level 5 if I recall). We’re yellow, and the best team ever*!

Not that I care anymore to be honest – I’ve not touched Pokémon Go for weeks now. I’ll probably be back though, whenever Niantic decides to release the next significant update. Hopefully that won’t be too long from now.

*Actually it feels like nobody plays for Instinct. When I played, I was always surrounded by Valor and Mystic gyms.

  1. I still seek an answer to my question, Niantic knew that the apk was being downloaded by people which they haven’t released the game to yet, they saw their servers are handling the strain so why didn’t they just release it back then.

So in all fairness Niantic should wipe everyones progress seeing as how it’s only now legally available here?

That would be the best move for fair play and the worst move to piss off thousands of people.

you mean the thousands that technically acquired the game illegally and should technically be banned?

Yes those fools. But the thing is Niantic won’t ban them because that’s revenue they’ll lose. Money talks in this case.

Hmmm. But they seem to not have found the root of the problem.

Never once cheated in this game, but I got flagged and banned for my droid being rooted.

You can keep your shitty game 🙂

Why you rooting an Android in the first place? I get jailbreaking an iPhone, but why root and Android phone?

For nourishment and to hold it in place.

I’m running a 4, almost 5, year old Samsung Note 2. Phone works flawlessly, performs like a beast but vendor software support for it ended years ago. Rooted it to get the newer OS ROMS and Recovery. Thats literally the only reason. I don’t see the point in spending 15k every 2 years on the new Samsung phones when my current one does exactly the same stuff. I re-rom it every 6 months or so to the latest builds available for it of whichever ROM is the flavor of the month which speeds it up again as well as gives me all the fancy new OS features.

Yeah, makes sense, but they did mention that they’d be banning any rooted or jailbroken device they found.

Yup, regardless of whether or not those accounts were cheating.

Hence why Niantic can go suck an egg 😛

I still play… when I really have nothing to do. And now that it’s officially out in SA I will go forth and battle for team Instinct.
Didn’t want to do battle due to I was afraid I might loose all my hard work. But by the looks of it I still have everything!

Header gold. It’s exactly what I thought when reading this.

I thought: “Perfect! Just in time for nobody to care any more. GG Niantic.”
