Pokemon GO player attacked and robbed

Twitch streamer Rickeybot decided to go for a stroll in Central Park one evening. He wanted to catch some Pokémon, and he took his Twitch audience along for the ride. Things didn’t go too well unfortunately (via VG247):

Rickeybot was attacked, and all of his tech was stolen. He was live on Twitch at the time, so the entire ordeal was witnessed by a number of people. Naturally, the footage has made its way to Youtube…

Unfortunately, the assailant hasn’t been apprehended. Thankfully, his face was caught on camera. This had led people on Reddit to pull some CSI shenanigans with the hope of identifying him.

Rickeybot meanwhile, is ok. He received no serious injuries in the attack at least.

He also said that he has better quality of the video from the stream, which he has handed over to the police to help them in their case. Between that and the might of Reddit, I don’t think it’ll be too long before the assailant is tracked down and brought to justice.

This incident should serve as a reminder though for Pokemon GO players to remain vigilant at all times. Here in South Africa in particular, we have to be extra careful. Always be aware of your surroundings, and if you can help it, don’t go out hunting at night. A phone and possibly your life surely isn’t worth risking for a digital creature!

But yeah, having an expensive phone and walking with it in the open while searching for Pokemon is really not a great idea. Unfortunately there’s no other way of playing the game without showing which phone you have.

I wonder if the mugger caught any Pokemon.

Though when he gets caught, he’ll probably get poked in his mon.

That just shows that this isn’t the first time he’s done that.

It’s truly scary and this guy got of with just a few bruises. It could have been worse. I hope people do learn from this and learn to be more vigilant.

Let that be a lesson to all you hipster/casual millenial gamers…. don’t go out at night and flash your expensive electronics for all to see.

Are you nuts? That’s like walking around with a couple hundred dollars in your hands and screaming “I’m a rich man, yes I am… You can rob me, Mr Robber-type” Seriously, what’s going on with people? Has common sense taken a dive out of a window? Is the Flynn effect over? Are we finally seeing the Great Dumbing? Is this the first example of the rise of the retard generation?
