Pokémon Tretta – Tazos for your 3DS

SUGOI!

Oh Japan, you never cease to amaze me. For me, the day that you unveiled Pokémon Tretta was a day in which I scratched my head, sniffed the lingering smell of cheese and onion from those Pokémon tazos I still had from high school and was left downright befuddled. But for you…it was simply Tuesday.

Over in the land of the rising sun, the free app known as Pokemon Tretta has been released for the 3DS. As well as the pricy and massive add-on peripheral that goes with either model of that handheld console, which will cost you in the region of $40 (R400).

So what does it do then? Well, Pokemon Tretta taps into the Skylanders market by allowing players to buy various mini-discs which can be inserted into the peripheral. From there, players can do battle with one another. Needless to say, these discs are going to become a new form of school yard currency if this takes off.

It’s out in August in Japan, and will also work with arcade machines. No word yet if it’s headed to the west.

  1. This is pretty lame…

The Pokéwalker that launched with Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver was amazing. It used built-in IR to communicate – this new accessory is ridiculously big!

All I hear all the time is Pokemon Turetta…
The separate discs are cool, suppose it’s for a much younger audience this.

Oh, yeah now I remember why I’m no longer a Nintendo fanboi, all those damn plastic peripherals. Stupid crap that you can only use for one game, but it costs an arm and a leg.
    Bad form, ol’ boy.
