Popular iPhone Game Teaches Vulgar Words – WARNING, DEFINITELY NOT SAFE FOR WORK

The iPhone is quickly becoming one of the most popular platforms for quick and easy games on the go.

One such game, which was released just a short while ago is a new word puzzle game that goes by the name of Scramble. How Scramble basically works is that you have little circles with letters in them on a 4×4 or 5×5 grid, and you have to create words from the letters that are linked to each other. At the end of the round, the game gives you a list of all possible words that could have been made and it was in this menu screen that I stumbled on something rather scary.

Was it the “F-Bomb” that I stumbled across? Hell no, it was the type of word that will very often attract a slap to your face and one that is so taboo that even Hollywood stays the hell away from it. So what’s the word?

I can’t show you here, but click through to see the screenshot that I snapped and in case you didn’t read the title, this is definitely not safe for work.

The worst part is that games like this are offered to children as learning tools all the time, and while the game is very addictive and great for language skills, one must wonder if the developers put enough time into double checking the word database that was used.

I found a few other dodgy words whilst playing the game as well, although nothing quite as bad as this one.

anyway, if some one swears in anything that’s written, i’d prefer that at least they spell it right

but as far as I am aware it’s not a valid English word anyway so what’s it doing in there?

I have to say that as good as the game is, there are some really strange words that shouldnt really be there, especially when it comes to names, words that not many people would ever know.

of course its a valid english word. foul language may not appear in your oxford dictionary, but if you look through any complete dictionary you’ll find many words you’d not expect to be there

just replace the * with the relevant vowel 😉

well I guess it depends on who’s dictionary we are using.. I personally go by either the Oxford or Cambridge versions myself… just because a lot of people say it doesn’t make it true…

lol… i hear what you saying, but unfortunately profanity is part of the english language as it is with most other languages.

o and said word does appear in both dictionaries. i am sure both dictionaries are kept up-to-date by cunning linguists  😉

The point was that it was vulgar language though. Even though bad words appear in dictionaries, games and movies still put warning labels or restrictions on them. These guys obvsiouly didnt think about that sort of thing.

sorry to give the wrong impression, as i’m in no way condoning the use of foul language, especially when children are involved.
but on the other hand, i’d rather have my child find a swear word in a game than some of the violence thats seemingly more acceptable.

“just because a lot of people say it doesn’t make it true…”
Of course it makes it true. How do you think they add new words to the dictionary? They see what words people use and then add them.
