The very highly anticipated sequel to Valve’s amazingly clever and beautifully funny first-person puzzler, Portal, becomes available to the world this week.

How while certain regions (such as ours) usually have to wait for Friday releases of games instead of Tuesday releases like in the U.S, PC gamers in our regions have been given a free head start thanks to Valve’s online service Steam.

We also had a look at how the game is scoring on Metacritic, and you may just find yourself completely surprised to find out if the anticipation and patience was worth it in the end.

Pfft, who the heck are we kidding, Portal 2’s scores are rocking the socks off of reviewers worldwide. A quick peek at global scores and out of 10 reviews so far, 3 of them are 100/100 with the lowest score awarded being a 90/100, leaving it with an average score of 96/100. So umm, I’d say it’s worth a look then, wouldn’t you?

Eurogamer, VideoGamer and Giant Bomb all dished out perfect scores for the game, signing praises that one would deem only worthy for the best of the best of the best in the industry, which it seems this is:

This is what they had to say:

Eurogamer:

Portal is perfect. Portal 2 is not. It’s something better than that. It’s human: hot-blooded, silly, poignant, irreverent, base, ingenious and loving. It’s never less than a pure video game, but it’s often more, and it will no doubt stand as one of the best entertainments in any medium at the end of this year. It’s a masterpiece.

VideoGamer:

A mere ten minutes here will yield more memorable moments than you’re likely to squeeze out of the entirety of most other games this year. In all aspects of its design, Portal 2 is genius.

Giant Bomb:

Despite being so much bigger than the original, I actually felt a little melancholy once Portal 2 was over, simply because it’s so rare to find a game this smart, this funny, and this rich with detail. It elevates Portal from an odd, memorable experiment to one of the most significant series in Valve’s stable with a unique voice and an incredible level of quality that all developers should aspire to.

I, like many of you, have been waiting to play Portal 2 pretty much the moment that the first one ended, and after seeing scores and words like this, I think that my excitement and need to play this game has just tripled… and it was pretty darn high to begin with.

The console and retail versions are out in certain regions today as well and for us will be out on Friday.

Is everyone getting this?
