Do you love Portal 2? Of course you do; it’s a surprising sequel in that it’s actually managed, improbably, to exceed the lofty heights – in terms of gameplay, charm and sheer inventiveness – of Valve’s portal-based first-person puzzler. Expect it to get even better; Valve has now released the game’s authoring tools (as a beta) to PC players of the game.
The tools, the same used to fashion the game, will enable creative tinkerers to allow you to create singleplayer and co-op maps, new character skins, 3D models, sound effects, and music.
Here’s what’s included :
– Updated version of Hammer, the Source level editor
– Updated Faceposer
– Example maps and instances to help build new maps
– Updated suite of command-line compiling utilities
You’ll be able to share your creations with other PC gamers. There’s no word that I can find, but with Steamworks, they might become available to PS3 gamers as well. Well, that’s if the PSN ever comes back on line. Xbox 360 players? Sorry, no mods for you; Microsoft is a tad draconian with its policies on user generated content.
