Pre-Christmas Sales – Post Christmas Report

Unfortunately I haven’t seen anything official coming out of of the console manufacturers yet but I have always trusted VGChartz and they are yet to let me down so let’s see what they have to say.

According to them the biggest winner this holiday season has once again been the Nintendo Wii but I don’t think anyone doubted that. For the week ending on the 20th of December it is estimated that Nintendo managed to sell a whopping 1 873 446 units taking their worldwide sales over the 43 million mark.

The only thing beating the Wii in that week was the Nintendo DS which moved an incredible 2 190 483 units.

Coming in a distant third was the Xbox 360 with 931 999 units but the obvious story is that Sony was propping up the charts with all three of it’s current consoles.

The PSP is leading the Sony race with 678 274 units and next up is the PS3 with 524 368 followed by the ancient PS2 with 356 210 units sold.

In better news the PS3’s flagship title, LittleBigPlanet, has moved past the million mark and is now sitting on 1 523 602. However it is languishing in 22nd spot on the charts and what makes that worse for Sony is that is the PS3’s second highest selling title in the week.

As a last note, it is very sad to see that Far Cry 2 on the 360 still hasn’t broken that million mark and needs an extra 60k units to push it over, so if you haven’t picked up a copy yet then help us out and go and buy one. We loved the game and the Far Cry 2 team and would love to see it make it over that magical mark.

I agree with Far Cry 2 , it is great and deserves good sales. Looks like some people still have a need for speed , to me that one does not deserve the good sales it is getting. LBP will go past 2 million in the long run , it is a great title with lots of potential.

Looking at vgchartz numbers and ndp of last month, seems like Sony is loosing a lot of market share YOY.

Sony have lost in the last 8 weeks almost 500 000 sales compared to last year and Microsoft have gained almost 1 500 000.

Microsft have done a great job with the price cuts and getting the xbox mainstream.

I think the biggest reason why LBP hasn’t done well (in SA at least) is because of the price. Was thinking of buying it and almost fell on my back when I saw it was selling for R980… just crazy!

Far Cry 2 doesnt deserve any more sales until they fix the blatant bug that corrupts save files.

Well the graphics of the xbox are great and at $200 its a steal. But no second control, no HD cables, no wireless and no hard drive? I would rather have my playstation.

So you got the Arcade.. if you had picked up a premium you would have HD Cables and a 60GB HDD. The single control thing applies to the PS3 and the lack of wireless is idiotic on Microsoft’s part..

But as you said, for value for money the Arcade is really good…

how you enjoying the States anyway?

Yea I got the arcade. The main problem is the difficulty of getting online. Playing onlne with my ps3 is what enjoyed most. To get on with my xbox is gonna cost me another $140.
    Oh and USA Rocks!!
