Prepare for the Sims 4

Guess who’s back, back again. Oh yes, it’s official.  Maxis (via owner EA) announced on their blog that the Sims 4 will be launching in 2014.

More details are promised to be forthcoming – you can also sign up on the Sims website for more details.

The next iteration of the Sims will be coming to PC and Mac.  EA says

The Sims 4 celebrates the heart and soul of the Sims themselves, giving players a deeper connection with the most expressive, surprising and charming Sims ever in this single-player offline experience.

I have mixed feelings about the Sims – I remember not affording a shower and forcing my sims to wash their hands 5 times a day to keep that stupid hygiene bar up; or how about adding people to my neighborhood just so that my “main” family could get more friends.  That said, I spent plenty of hours playing it, and I know a couple people who will be very happy with this as a gift in 2014.  I’m just curious how many millions of expansions/DLCs will follow on.

Surprisingly (or not so surprisingly given the Sim City backlash), The Sims 4 will be a “single-player offline experience” according to the press release from EA. Have they finally learned some actual lessons?

I giggled when I saw them expressly mention single-player offline.

My first thought was they were going to put you next to other sim families to form online sim neighbourhoods, possibly linking to sim city so you can pick on online city you’d like to live in.

I did it. I ordered with Chrome, and changed my agent to think it was IE10. Pizza was awesome 😀

So, how many of the current versions features will be stripped out and become paid for DLC? Will any of the current DLC be incorporated – my guess is NO. My sister plays this, and every once in a while she whines for more DLC, but I will not bow down in Sims 4.

hope it will be a huge free roaming version…sims 3 was cool but the world did feel a little constrained.
