Prepare to make a final stand with Battlefield 4

Final Stand

It’s a pity Battlefield 4 became a broken mess for me a couple of weeks after I got it. I genuinely loved the game, but I haven’t touched it for many, many months. Every time I watch a video or anything related though, I have that itch to dive back in. The latest catalyst comes compliments of the last planned DLC simply called ‘Final Stand’. It has prototype weapons, secret military installations, and freezing landscapes…

First up, here’s the reveal video which was shown a good few weeks ago…

Here’s the gameplay trailer which was unveiled just yesterday…

We know some of you are locked up in horrible corporations which block YouTube, so here’s a Vidme version too.

Lastly, here are the features you can expect from the DLC:

High-Tech Weaponry – Fight in secret military installations and get your mitts on high-tech prototype weapons like the devastating railgun Rorsch MK-1, that fires a single powerful ignited by kinetic energy.

Traverse the snow – Use the new Snowmobile or take helm of the experimental hover tank HT-95 Levkov, capable of versatile movement, to master the sub-zero landscapes and harsh blizzards of the 4 all-new maps.

Futuristic gadgets – All-new gadgets and Battle Pickups like the flying, machine gun-equipped drone XD-1 Accipiter and the sneaky DS-3 Decoy Signal give you the upper hand on the Battlefield.

If you’re a premium member, you have access to the DLC starting today already. For the other saps like myself, we have to cough up around $15 and can only play from December the 2nd.

This of course serves as the last bit of Battlefield content before the sequel, Hardlines, comes out in March next year. It’s a completely different approach to the franchise, and I don’t see it being quite as awesome as the stuff shown above. Perhaps I’ll be proven wrong.

Anyways, are you a Battlefield fan? Are you excited for this final bit of DLC?

For the new intro video… the actual game files is another story. Quantum subatomic blackhole with mobile self regenerating power supply is needed. My head hurts.

Na mate, BF4 has been sorted since day 1. Local servers, lekker maps, dunno why people harp on it. By far the best arcade shooter released so far.

Local servers are key to any online game, wish they would implement it for more games.

my biggest issue is the Premium.
i really dont like paying more for new maps than I did for the game.
with no guarantee that the DLC gets enough people online on local servers to make it worthwhile.

The game itself is solid though, even with the few bugs that are still hanging around.

As the old saying goes “no one forced you” or “put a gun to your head” to get the Premium.

I have been playing BF for quite some time. One thing I have learned of the years is that the expansions and DLC’s never did fare well locally. There was only a handful that was popular here in RSA. That was BF2: Special Forces, Northern strike (BF2142) and prolly Vietnam (BC2). Other popular DLC’s where those that came with the day one pre-orders like Back to Karkand. The older expansions where awesome as they really added a lot to the games, from different modes to factions to complete different voice overs and loads more. They also had more than 4 maps back then. DLC’s are a different story.

Now I’m a huge fan of Battlefield since BF2. I own all the copies of BF titles on the PC to date and have yet to buy any form of Premium. The only expansion I ever bought was BF2 Special Forces. So you can say I can contain myself at all the bling they are throwing out there. It’s simply, just don’t buy into the whole Premium thing.

From the other view of the story. R400-R500 really isn’t bad if you bought Premium since release. Thats ~R100 per DLC. Think about it, that is quite a lot of content they are throwing out there for R100 per DLC and they keep the game fresh by bringing in new content for the player. Yes, it might feel like they are holding the content hostage by hiding it behind a pay-wall, but you have the choice of going for it or leaving it. If we stop paying for it they might eventually learn to leave things in the base game if that is the case.

Lucky for you the new BF titles like BF3 and BF4 allows you to play on international servers and you should be able to find a few servers that has the DLC’s enabled and allows for people with moderate pings to join on. Back in BF2 and BF2142 it was almost impossible to even play a game with 200-300 ms due to how the game was developed (thing Counter Strike for example) and the ADSL/ISDN lines we had then. So we organised to play expansions like Special Forces every Wednesday evenings. It only happened due to people having the drive to pitch up on that day for 2 years.

The moral of the story, if you don’t like the idea of forking out more $$$ on Premium, simply don’t buy it. The less we buy into it the better our chances are that EA might(just) stop the whole idea and rather improve on it or remove it completely.

What I would like to suggest to EA with the whole Premium thing is: Look at how CSGO for example releases content. Everyone can play the maps, the users that didn’t buy the operations did not get the skins and other content like missions etc. Now The can do almost the same with BF. Simply give all the maps to everyone, but keep the guns, weapons, double XP days for Prem, early release of DLC’s etc. It should bring a more of a balance to how DLC’s fare here in RSA.

            i didnt buy Premium.
            for BF3 or BF4.
because Im mad and refuse to pay Premium prices for shitty maps.

            R100 a DLC pack, basically, R100 for 4 maps..
while at the same time, i bought the borderlands 2 DLC pack for 20$, which included 4 long and expansive singleplayer storylines and 2 extra playthroughs.
thats R50 a DLC pack for ALOT more content.

CoD4 would release the maps for free, granted there werent many of them, only 3 or 4.

the idea of premium costing more than the game just properly grinds my gears.
            its downright extorsion.

I got my premium for R200 when it was on special and that bf4, so it wasnt that bad but probably wont pay full for any premium or season pass for that matter

I am not saying there were no issues for some, but personally I have been very happy with it. No issues, no hassles. Just log in and play. Then again I keep my gaming PC in a clean ultra ready state 🙂

So dying behind corners, double damage spots on tanks, weapons like scar-h doing double damage every other shot, m240b doing double damage every other shot, head glitching, res glitching, shooting blanks (not getting hit markers) of the few I can think of.

Dont get me wrong the game runs fine for me as well “144fps” on 64 players maps the game mechanics are still broken though.

I have not seen one of those things. Ever. But I only play on HC servers, so maybe the issue is with the ‘softcore’ game settings?

Know I know why I love the scar H!

            November 18, 2014 at 14:34

Nope the entire game is effected by it thats why they have the CTE (Community Test Servers) to try and fix the issues.

Its well documented as well. Its a fun game dont get me wrong but its so broken its embarrassing.

I do play competitive though so maybe casual players just dont pick these things up.

meh….. still a broken mess. Was playing on & off for a while now & last night was the final straw….. still getting 1 hit (non headshot) kills, some players take a full clip to the pip & still survive, not to mention the cheats still floating around…..

All I really wanted to hear is… we are making BF2143. Really want to see what the future will be like with the Frostbite engine and of course the old dev team from BF2/2142.

        Titan mode, drools….

To think even if the mode was broken(disabled) for a year or two, people still think about it as being one of the good things BF2142 bought to the Battlefield franchise. Yeah, they eventually fixed it and got it working again at the end, yet it did not tarnish the name.

Also the dev team of BF1942 , BF2 and BF2142 made the games so awesome (back then) that we as the players enjoyed ourselves so much that we barely cared about some of the issues with all 3 of these games had. Back then BF was pretty epic. I hope they can return to this some day.

Happy they bought back old school rule set to BF4. #ItsAstart

Played Advanced Warfare the other day and I must say, Battlefield 4 still makes it look like a 2 bob arcade game from the 90s.

Anyone else as disappointed in the ginal stands lack of well, EVERYTHING All other dlc’d have been completly worth it coming with a new game mode a new arsenal of brand new weapons and brand new sets of vehicles with new unlocks and the final stands perks and advantages? Non existing. We get a flurry of useless dog tags and camo. Fine a new usless gadget too. They promised a new twist on the gameplay fresh new ideas a whole new outlook on all theyve done and whatd we get. A repeat, same vehicles same guns same old strategies. Hell even the hover tank is just a glorified tank riding a inch of air, not one new unlock for it? Lazy is what it is not to mention insulting
