Prepare your cardboard box – The Phantom Pain multiplayer to be revealed next week

Everyone’s favourite Japanese-made box simulator, Metal Gear Solid V, is fast approaching its launch next year. We’ve actually seen a lot of The Phantom Pain over the past few months, and it’s shaping up quite nicely. The online Mother Base integration is one of my personal highlights, but it looks like we’ll see the game’s true competitive multiplayer offering next week.

Because next week is the new and hopefully improved Game Awards, hosted by Geoff Keighley. He tweeted out yesterday that Hideo Kojima would be attending the show, bringing the very first look at the new Metal Gear Online with him.

I’ve not been a massive fan of past Metal Gear Online attempts, but The Phantom Pain is different. The online portion of the game has been handed over to KojiPro’s L.A. branch, which means it could have a far greater Western influence than other iterations. There’s no need for alarm bells to start ringing, as the single-player is still being kept all the way over the sea in Japan.

I just hope that Metal Gear Solid V’s multiplayer actually feels like a solid (heh), worth extension of the incredible single-player stealth experience. The series has yet to nail that, so I’ll have my eyes glued to the screen during Kojima’s keynote at the awards next week. What would you like to see revealed on stage?

Get a flood of Geoffs, with our Geoff at the helm shouting “WHAT DO WE WANT? F*** YOU! WHEN DO WE WANT IT? EAT SH**!”

*shrug* seemed like a good idea at the time… guess I’ll shuttup now.

Listen up WESTERNERS. This is a Japanese game. DO NOT!!! Be surprised if this game does not require a day 1 patch, runs at 60fps/1080p and the on-line works day one.

HIDEO insert controller 2 KOJIMA IS BOSS.
