Print your own Evolve figures, in 3D!

You could have this if your painting skizzles are good

I would have laughed a good few years ago if you told me that you could use a printer to literally print legit, three dimensional objects. The technology finally took form, but what boggles my mind is that these 3D printers can be purchased in retails stores, . If you have one, you can stop printing an excess of plastic cups and finally put it to good use.

Evolve is a game that is getting lots of attention, netting awards left right and centre. It even nabbed one of our E3 2014 awards for best multiplayer .Turtle Rock Studios have released the 3D files for some of their Evolve characters, and all for free. Downloading these files will actually let you print these character figurines. Sure, they will only be printable in one colour, but if you’re an enthusiast and love this sort of thing, you could more than likely paint them to give them some real life.

Accessing these files is incredibly simple. All you have to do is head over to the Evolve website and follow their simple instructions. Check out the video below for a peek at what the figures actually look like.

Its actually a really good way of marketing the game prior to its launch on October 21st , at least to those who have the technology to play with. What do you think? Do you have a 3D printer lying around?

I saw one at a launch this week, rep said it cost about R23k, but I don’t know if it was purchased locally. Took about 2hours just to print a car badge with almost no detail.

The bulk of these home 3D printers are not worth it. The plastic they sell for them is beyond brittle, the machines as well are painfully slow and often give issues.

The bigger machines are epic, HP even has one coming out using starch to try print food =p. But yea these home ones, rather save on the cash until the technology progresses further.

I’m sorry, but that is like saying “These gfx cards, rather save on cash until the technology progress further”

If you pay R13k for a 3D printer then it will be low end, just like paying R300 for a screen card. If you have R100K to fork out then good for you, you will get a great professional printer.
I build two printers form scratch thus far, for around R5000 each and they may not be perfect, but they print and it’s fun.
On plastic, there are PLA(used by most hobby printers. Easiest to print with), ABS(harder to print with but real plastic compared to PLA), Nylon, Polycarbonate, polystyrene, polyethylene, and some more exotic. And I bought all these plastics in Centurion…
