Project CARS delayed again, now coming in May

Project CARS

Here I thought development on Project CARS was speeding along, but it seems to have gotten a ticket instead. Project CARS was supposed to be released in November of last year, but was then delayed until March of this year. It was delayed again from March to April, and now we learn it’s been pushed to May instead. Will there be even more speed bumps in the game’s future?

According to the developer, Project CARS is 99.9% complete. However, the small issues and bugs they’re trying to squash have been tricky to anticipate. Studio head Ian Bell explained:

We’re absolutely dedicated to delivering a ground-breaking experience and by targeting mid-May fans can be assured that’s what they’ll receive. Again, we want to thank our fans for their support and patience on this matter. We firmly believe gamers deserve it to be in its most complete and polished state when they come to play it on day one.

As compensation for the wait, the developer is offering free content at release to all players, although Bell wouldn’t say what the free gift actually entailed.

This is pretty much the same statement Bell made back in February about the delay into April. It makes sense and I’d much rather see a game delayed than release with bugs and other glitches. However, I’m worried that their planning department is broken; it would have been much better to delay into May the first time around. All these delays end up feeling like they’re pushing out the deadline instead of actually working towards it.

Perhaps racing fans should pick up Driveclub while they’re waiting. I hear it’s way better now. Then again, Project CARS will bring some of the finest racing you can get to PC, PS4 and Xbox One when it launches mid May. Or, whenever it launches.

That’s fine, really. Delay the game to make sure it works. Dying Light had a 30MB day one update. I couldn’t even grab beer before I had to start playing but that was so refreshing to see.

DUUUUDE, I popped it in and still told my wife I should always put the game in as soon as I come home because all the games have major updates…Went to the loo, came back and Dying Light was done updating and what do you know…Game runs extremely well lol

Ive put in more that 20 hours in that game, not even half way through the story.

Lol Yup, played it quite a bit now and like 12 percent done with the story. Side quests keep popping up and always tempted to explore. Despite its problems ,this is a quality game and really gives you value for your money.

Didn’t know it had problems…….. except with the story. Dont want to give away spoilers but when dramatic things happen Im left feeling indifferent. It needed a lot more character development

Yeah, the story is the problem lol, the story is a bit of a drag. I choose to rather spend my time as Parkour Man and help the citizens with their problems rather than be the puppy for the top dogs

The Order 1886 was the same – 29Mb update and then it performed flawlessly through 2 playthroughs. Say what you want about it (and I’m not one of the critics) but they made a damn good engine that works 100% flawlessly with that game.

I hope Project Cars can do the same. I’m a little annoyed with the “delay it by 1 month at a time” approach – rather delay by, say, 2 or 3 months and, if done early, you can surprise the fan base. But I do understand and definitely choose working final title than buggy piece of a$$.

Understandable. I got mine as a gift, so lucky like that. But honestly I enjoyed it. And one of the biggest reasons was that it didn’t break… At all… Ever! So refreshing to play a modern title that has no bugs. Other devs could learn a lot from their approach.

Really enjoying Dying Light too. Sadly don’t get as much time as I’d like to play anymore – been hanging out with the new girlfriend, so I ain’t complaining.

Also started, coz I’ve been meaning to for a very long time, playing Bioshock (the original) again recently… Man, it is still such an amazingly atmospheric game! It just oozes atmosphere… And the story is as gripping as it was the first time I played it (even if I do know what the big twist at the end will be). So epic!

Agreed. I truly did enjoy it. And that engine… It is a work of art! Gorgeous and stable from the get-go – something very few games can pull off nowadays.

I wouldn’t be too worried about another delay. If watching the development of Star Citizen has taught me anything, it’s that bugs come out of nowhere & sometimes fixing one thing ends up breaking something else. That said, be smart, wait for a review.

“That said, be smart, wait for a review.” Yup. This is especially true with games that had a rough development history.

Sadly, it’s a racing game. So the “wait for a review” rule doesn’t apply to me… I must have it!!

Unless it has the words “Need”, “for” and “Speed”, in that order, in the title… Then it’s on my “stay the hell away from me” list!

Is Project Cars a real racing simulator? Or is it just Grid 2 point sim.

I’ve been looking forward to playing Project Cars because I always thought it was a real simulator and not some arcade/sim. So now I have to wait till after release to find out from people is it’s actually a racing simulator. So in other words no day 1 sale from me.

Then let’s look at May. End of April, people are spending their money on GTA 5 and Mortal Kombat. End of May, people are buying The Witcher 3 and only the Witcher 3 because you need time to play and finish that game. End of June, people are buying Batman AK. 4

So end of July, will I even remember if Project Cars turned out to be a real simulator. Will I evens remember it. Oh fuck it it’s already August and I can wait for the Steam Winter Sale and get it for $5.

True sim my ass. The aerodynamics on cars works fine but at least in the latest build they have made the tire models really weird. Mid turn it first feels like the tires are coated with glue. Then they turn to steel and back to glue coated rubber again whilst exiting. This is not how a race car or any car handles at high speed.
You want a sim? Try Assetto Corsa, rFactor or iRacing. Now those are sims.
This? This is a sim arcade much like a Codemasters F1 game.

Forza 6 will be out by the time this Project is delivered and Drive Club will still be scraping the bottom of the barrel for non-sim fans.

I don’t consider Forza a racing sim anymore. Forza 4 was the last I felt could truly hold that title. I feel it’s become more of a hybrid arcade style game.

They did a test some years back between Forza and Gran Turismo and then compared it to real car times for laps. GT came real close to the real thing. Forza was also a few seconds off.

But people like Forza because it’s easy to pick up and play. All the cars are there to play with. GT you got to put hours in to get cars.

Forza 5 has closed the gap to GT on the handling front. Cars are not so so stiff anymore. The game is also lacking in other departments like weather and day/night cycles but the accessibility and online community keeps Forza as the best right now.

Gran Turismo will be out by the time this is finished, and that will be in glorious 1080p and will pretty much sate the needs of the average half-arcade half-sim racing game player. I respect Forza( Pretty nifty game on Xbox) but I like GT more. Project CARS feels like someone’s made a cloning machine and shoved GT, Forza and GRID into it- the end result being project CARS. Don’t get me wrong my opinion is still subject to change if I see that it is good, but from what I’ve seen currently it is a bit off-par.
