Project CARS

Not all sport is about kicking or throwing a ball. Sometimes, it’s all about petrol and types and that delicious sound of an engine turning over. Plus all that machinery can look mighty sexy. This new trailer for Project CARS might just make the wait for the game even harder to endure.

Without any ado, here is the ‘Start your engines’ trailer:

For those without YouTube but with a love of the vroom vroom, here’s a link for you, too.

For those who still don’t know about Project CARS, it’s a community driven game that is promising to be the most technically-advanced, beautiful, intense and authentic racing game, ever. Here’s what you can expect from the project:

  • It’s got a huge variety of motorsports on offer. Our teams are based in over 18 different countries so cars and car culture all mean something different to us all. For me, it’s growing up in the ’80s with the Formula 1 days of Nigel Mansell and Ayrton Senna. For others it’s modern-day NASCAR, the German Touring scene, or European Endurance racing. So with Project CARS we wanted to ensure the cars in the game represented truly global motorsports with each of their rules and formats intact.
  • Project CARS has the largest track roster of any recent racing game: locations from all around the world from Australia to Dubai to Belgium, Japan, US West Coast, and the UK we’ve packed in over 250 miles of tarmac.
  • Lastly but by no means least, we’ve ensured that Project CARS is accessible, customisable, and tailored to each and everyone’s comfort and skill level with a huge amount of personalisation options. You can dial the handling to anything from a complete sim experience to something more casual. With Project CARS you’ll truly be able to make it your own.

Are you a virtual petrol-head? Will this game go up against Forza, Drive Club and Gran Turismo in a fight for your accelerated loving? Or are you keeping your foot on the brake for this title until it’s releases on to the open road?

Go drop R500k at the supercar club, and you will get to drive a supercar for 52 days a year. Better than any game. A bargain. A Steal! Uh, Captain, can you loan me R500k please?

If they have a nice mix of tracks (hopefully with Circuit De La Sarthe in there) and a decent amount of cars then this will be my “new release to get” (after two weeks of course, to make sure there aren’t any disappointments).

They have loads of awesome tracks, from Green Hell and Suzuka to Lacuna Seca. The game also handles brilliantly. This is the most excited I’ve been for a racing game in a long long time.

I played a November build of the game and it was awesome. The only thing that bugged me was the AI, but I suspect that they will have fixed that.

Also, no stearing lag to speak of!

I saw Laguna on the trailer. But I sure love me some Circuit De La Sarthe action. Huge fan of Istanbul Park too and hate that it’s no longer in the F1.
Either way, I’m looking forward to this one. Finally something that looks a bit fresh.

This is neither console only or an arcade game. This is the purest form of racing simulation. It’s as real as it gets (and made by an awesome community to boot) and is not for sissies. You need a set of man-balls to tackle Nordschleife with a Ferrari F50 GT 😀

Ever tried RaceRoom? I actually enjoyed it, but those micro-transactions and the fact that a single car and a single track cost you more than an entire game made that relationship end as quickly as it started.

            January 20, 2015 at 08:40

I played Race Room and don’t like it. The steering feels floaty. Project Cars feels a lot better than that for me.

          • Captain JJ Saga

            January 20, 2015 at 08:41

Yes, the steering was a bit iffy. The sound was amazing though.

Pity you don’t have XB360 or XB1 – Forza Horizon and Horizon 2, for me, is the new definition of what a open-world racer should be. Has an arcadey feel too, so you can drift and slide, with control, to your heart’s content. 🙂

That’s what I love about Forza. It’s the only game that still captures what I loved about the old Codemasters racing games. Not everything is either at the one end of the spectrum or at the other.
I love my full sim games, but the option for that in-between when you just want to relax is so rare these days. Last game that came close to getting that right was Shift 2.

All those years of playing Gran Turismo, Forza, old-school Test Drive, Stunts, Nascar 2000, Porsche Cup, Wacky Wheels, the good NFS games from years ago and all the other racing games along the way… They’ve all been preparing me for this moment… For this game! My body and mind are ready! GO GO GO!!!

And yes, if you can’t tell yet, I am pretty excited for this game. 🙂

AKA Porsche 2000. Fucking loved that game. Except it would infuriate me with my keyboard. Spin outs due to POWER ON/POWER OFF were annoying. And then once I’d spin out I would just continuously spin out trying to get started again.

Yes. Porsche 2000. I remember getting confused between the two.
It was the first racing game that really felt so open and immense (even if you couldn’t really venture off the road). The handling was also better than most modern games. Dat body roll on the old cars.

The niche is larger than you think, I think. I’ve been following WMD (world of mass development) and there is a lot of people already playing and putting time into this game. I would already deem it successful whether or not the general public receives it well or not. The community is already there.
