PS3 3D Headset exists… not coming anytime soon

Maybe when I’m big I will also be allowed to head on over to CES in Las Vegas and check out all the cool toys, however until then we will have to rely on reporting back on the best bits as seen by others.

One of the coolest things that I have seen so far is the PS3 3D headset with integrated 5.1 surround sound.

The headset consists of 2 mini OLED screens (1280×720) which, as you would suspect, are placed in front of each eye to give you that all important 3D experience.

While the unit above may look like a finished product it is apparently still very much in the design phase with no real way to attach it to your head yet and with it only really working very well if you hold it in a specific spot.

The worst part of it all is that it’s highly unlikely to ever see a retail release as an accessory like this would be too expensive and the adoption rate would be tiny. PS4 maybe?

Sure it uses a lot less power than a 46 inch tv and surround sound system , lets go green , the planet needs it.

If anyone did this it would be Nintendo. They already tried it with the Virtual Boy, but with technology we have now I wouldn’t be surprised if they took a shot at it again. They love innovating.

Na, Nintendo would not do this. They are all about the “family” experience, this is as long wolf as you can get.

Really cool idea but not for a home console, more for portables if you ask me. Mainly because portables are mostly single player experiences already, you dont have to worry about buying multiple headsets for other users who want to watch or play. Plus with this as the screen, you could build the portable’s hardware right into something like a dualshock 3 because you do not need a screen and you get to hold a comfortable controller again! This would also be excellent on planes or car trips or any media!

I wonder how much it would retail for… the high rez machines at http://www.senics.com range around $23,000, where as the itvgoggles with only 640X480 are $450. i love this technology for hardcore gaming. 3D with 180 degree Field of View (FOV) and head tracking, would be breathtaking. especially for racing games and shooters.!
    i would buy it.!

Do you have a link for that info as that would be pretty awesome really if we could plug them into anything… I don’t see Sony making it available for competitors though
