PS3 Black Ops owners demanding refund – are you?

Perhaps this should have been kept for tomorrow’s Flamebait Friday Debate, because the likelihood of this sparking a fanboy tirade is remarkable. According to some people, Call of Duty: Black Ops is an inferior product on the PlayStation 3. This comes in the wake of Digital Foundry’s in depth comparison article on the differences between the Xbox 360 version and the PlayStation 3 version of Treyarch’s shooter.

Their findings, coupled with weeks of hundreds of thousands of people playing the game on PlayStation 3, have resulted in some backlash from an outraged group. The outraged group is, however, minute in the grander scheme of things, but they’re just getting started.

Over on ipetitions.com, an angered PS3 owner has started requesting signatures towards reaching an ultimate goal of a full refund on the purchase of Call of Duty: Black Ops, for every person that bought the game on PlayStation 3. On top of the supposed visual impairments in the PS3 version, the petition points towards missing features. One of those is online split-screen functionality, which the Xbox 360 version has.

According to the petition, the PS3 version had just as much time in development as the Xbox 360 version and as such there should have been no difference in the products. The petition also claims that the PS3 can outperform the Xbox 360 “on many levels”; make of that what you will.

“There should be no reason why [Black Ops] should have been any different. They advertised a game that fans have come to love and in the end, for their latest release, the PlayStation 3 got the short end of the stick. They sold us this degenerate version of [Black Ops] at the same price as Xbox 360 version.

“Is it fair to charge Playstation 3 owners the same price for an inferior product, when the previous version (Modern Warfare 2) was equal on both systems but the updated version (BO) is not? Is it fair to charge Playstation 3 owners the same price for an inferior product, when the previous version (Modern Warfare 2 on PS3) looked visually better than BO looks now on PS3?”

I can’t see them getting their way. In fact, I’ll be gobsmacked if they do. Still, it’s gaining momentum and attracting attention; at midday yesterday, the petition had less than 150 signatures on it; now, it has 1690.

If I had more knowledge I’d get a petition for the PC version as well. Completely crap performance and the Forums are full of complaints! I agree with -this- petition, if you sell a half-baked product, the public must and will do something about it.

Hey, in todays climate everybody has the right to fight what they want. On the one side you can say it’s lame to fight such small thing but on the other if you dont what else will companies get away with?

This ain’t a matter of PS3 vs Xbox. It’s a problem of a product no being up to scratch and being sold at the same price.

I’d say fight the bastards. Gee vir die amerikaners ‘n bietjie van hulle eie medisyne!

I can see why they would moan, I mean this isn’t a mom and pop company who made this game, it’s Treyarch under the wing of Activision, and it is not as if the ps3 development kit didn’t exist.

also this may or maynot shed some light on why the ps3 one is made of fail… (I have the ps3 one, and I don’t mind how it is)

Now there’s 2000 signatures. I did one too, cuz its such bullshit, like the one guy commented this–“Car manufacturers would not get away with selling an unfinished car so why should games companies get away with it?”
