Game selling a PS3 for R2999… but there's a catch

Are you still PS3-less? Do you dream of taking on Kevin Butler in ModNation Racers or taking on lans in GT5 towards the end of the year?

If so then this is your lucky day, In Game’s most recent catalogue is an offer to get yourself a PS3 with 2 bundled games (Heavenly Sword and Ratchet & Clank) for a sniff under R3000.

That’s an incredibly good price and as always there is a catch.

The units on offer are old PS3’s which have been refurbised and only come with a 40Gb HDD but if you’re a dedicated Xbox 360 gamer and would like to try out some PS3 exclusives then this is most probably the best offer you are going to be able to find.

As a side note this story came from the incredibly useful “Submit a Tip” menu option that you can see above and was originally submitted by Fox1. Unfortunately I had to edit it just a little but we would all love to see a lot more community posts moving forward so please do keep them coming.

doesn’t seem worth it. Not so much because of the 40gb refurb machine, but the fact that those old 40gb machines came with the sixaxis.

So that’s already an extra expense just to get the nice controller (unless the refurb units come with teh Dual Shock 3?)

It has a full warranty though.

Why not buy it. Stick it in a cupboard and leave it on until it YLOD’s. Then when you claim back your warranty you will likely get a Slim because they don’t actually make these anymore.

Not the most morally acceptable method though.

Personally I’d rather pony up the extra cash to get a brand new 120gb slim. If you shop around enough you can find them going for R3700 with a bundled game.

As Milesh pointed out you also get the DS3 as opposed to the godawful Sixaxis.

I suppose it’s worth looking at if you really prefer the design of the phat over the slim.

What if they pullout more phat’s when warranty claim time comes through?

And a sneaky way to overtake the XBox 360 sales don’t you think? :pouty:

I would as well. I mean it’s only an extra R700 and you get the slim with a DS3, and you likely won’t get any hassles from it breaking.

This refurbished unit’s price is pretty high considering. I would expect it to be more like R2000.

Well…. on the one hand if you read the info on the pic it comes with 2 controllers so there is already a bit of a gain and since its game you can pay it off over 24 or 36 months usually. What worries me is what do they mean with refurbished? :ermm: is it a console that broke and they just had fixed? Is it a console that was reclaimed because previous owner couldn’t pay it off? Some Game shops do have a Bargain Table where they sell repaired or reclaimed stock that ppl couldn’t afford so I wouldn’t put it past them if they are all second hand consoles. :getlost:

I bit the bullet and decided to just go ahead and get one. It was completely sealed with all the proper protective transparent sticky stuff, what ever its called. Seems to be working great. I asked the sales dudes whats ‘graded’ about it. Apparently, they are brand new units that didn’t sell in time before the slimline versions came out. So everything is the same EXCEPT (which is a good thing) they have upgraded the blueray software to play newer blueray’s. Im not sure if this is true or not. but anyway it plays avatar no problem.
BUT, I went the next day and saw that makro have the 120G slimline also on special for R2999. Thats probably a better buy. Of course it doesnt come with a 2nd controller, but thats up to you which you rate is worth it.

I also just bought it. I wanted an xbox…but I got to Game and they offered the ps3 for R2800. If I bought the xbox arcade (R1999) another controller and a xbox game (+-R800) I would have payed the same price. So to me, evan though I still crave an Xbox…I made my gf happy and bought the ps3. My gf wanted to set up the whole media sharing over the wireless network. With Xbox I would’ve had to buy a wireless adapter which ranges between R600 – R1000.

It came with uncharted 2 (Awesome game) and Ratchet and Clank :Crack in time (Absolute rubbish, traded it in at BTGAMES for guitar hero).

So far so good. Platinum games released on ps3 are calming my mind down over the fact that ps3 games are notably more expensive than Xbox. Sigh at the lack of rpg’s but dragon age and oblivion will have to do for the time being.

In otherwords, if your looking for the best bargain on the ps3 for the next 2yrs…then it’s worth it.

As for the problem with sixaxis…I havent hit any bumps yet…I’ll cross that road when I get to it.
