PS3 Sells More Games To A Smaller Market

Yesterday, we reported that Ubisoft was showing greater sales on the PS3 than the Xbox 360. Granted, the information was only for the United States.

Today, According to the latest sales reports from Namco Bandai, Konami, Ubisoft and EA, the Playstation 3 is actually selling more titles than the Xbox 360 despite having a smaller install base.

While the PS3 has been playing the catch up game to the Xbox 360 for quite some time since its later launch, it looks as if it’s time is nigh. With Microsoft pushing the new 360 price drops as well as the releases of Fable 2 and the mighty Gears of War 2, one must wonder whether the PS3 will be able to keep up with LBP, Resistance 2 and Killzone 2 but a significantly higher price still.

The truth will only really come out after the Christmas rush is over and to be honest, I have no idea who is going to be out in front when all is said and done.

We will keep our eye on the stats and see how Christmas plays out.

  1. I wonder if piracy has something to do with this? I personally know three people with chipped Xboxes. They play EVERYTHING without paying a dime. It’s like a freakin plague!

    1. Ubisoft sold haze in quarter 1 – so $25 000 000 of revenue
went to it bumping up the numbers, they also sell more or less the same number of software as xbox in europe and with the exchange rate the way it is , even if the xbox sell more units they will earn less revenue.

    2. I have not had time to look at the other income statements but think they will all show more revenue in Europe and Japan.

    3. So not necessary more games but they derive more revenue out of Europe and Japan, Also A game cost $50 in America but the same game cost 40 or 50 Uk pounds which is almost $100.

As a PS3 fanboy, I must say that the 360 should win this time round…

Sony’s decision to also not have a price cut could prove costly.

I mean the Arcade 360 is cheaper here than a Nintendo DS!

well we should also keep in mind that maybe some people sold they’re faulty xboxes and got PS3s….. In my opinion put a big ass fan next to your xbox and then RRoD is non exsistant thats what i do , and trust me it works

I love xbox and envy PS3 for some of its titles but Sony has also intertained us for over 2 generations. Would hate to see a pioneer crash and burn.

I respect Sony for being the only non pirated console this generation. Hooray for BD and it being so expensive to manufacture hahahaha

Surely developers will realise the PS3 has a higher attachment rate and start favour the console?

How many people did not go through or still own 2 or 3 Xbox360’s while most households will own only one PS3. There allready is a eason you see more 360 sales even though you won’t see more 360 game sales.

Then there is 360 piracy, realy too bad for the game devs 🙁 I hope PS3 don’t ever get cracked.

Lets see what happens over christmas, I’m sure there will be way more 360 consoles sold than PS3, but dunno bout the software side of things.

also a reason for software sales to plumit could be second hand stores. Remember. Even developers complain about that they only make the profit of the single game after selling it.

the the second hand store sharks put their tag on it and resell it at what they think is reasonable.. when that person returns to swop it again the cycle restarts . One should also take that in consideration

X360 can be pirated, PS3 users must buy games i they want play. On long term, developers will go to PS3 exclusives, because they want to get money from their games and people who doesn’t pay is not interesting. This is what also explains, why X360 net service is not free, it supports users who never paid for the games. Anyway, PS3 is not so expensive if you focus on extra features, X360 is very expensive if you buy the wireless, hdmi, and online gaming.
