Emulate

For those of you who can’t afford or find a console to play those hawt games from yesteryear on, there’s always been a morally grey area to fall back on. The emulator has come a long way since the days of the VisualBoy Advance, giving gamers a backdoor into those games. Xbox 360 and PS3 emulators have been notoriously unreliable in the past however. That could, theoretically, change with the latest consoles.

Thanks to the fact that the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 had abstract hardware that would leave many a hobbyist crying in a corner, playing those games on PC was a nightmare of buggy design and crashes. The PlayStation 4 and Xbox One however, have a more mainstream design built into the hardware, bringing those platforms closer to PC.

And that’s something that software engineer Ben Vanik reckons could be exploited in order to create proper emulators for those systems. Speaking to Slashdot Vanik, who makes emulators in his own spare time, said that the hardware setup of those boxes could herald a change;

It would be easier to create a PS4 or Xbox One emulator within the next year or so than it would be to create a PS3 or Xbox 360 emulator that ran at the speed of the device.

Still, Sony and Microsoft need not unleash the lawyers of war just yet. In order to get those games cracked and circulating on the various pirate bays out there, those folks would need to be able to hack the console. Which no one has been able to do…yet.

As Geoff surmised, the only way to get through that Pandorica of security layers would be for teams of hackers to to co-operate and do some teamwork. Good luck getting that level of co-operation off the ground. At least we know that Microsoft already has emulators of their own on the Ryse.

Off topic: I have never played any of the Witcher games on the 360. Worth the money?

Got The Witcher 2 on the 360 recently (when it was on special on Xbox marketplace) and I say, yes, worth the money. Even though I’m not very far into the game.

Just bought the witcher 2 from gamestop for the 360 last week. Only twenty bucks brand new and came with the game guide. I gotta say it’s a hard game but well worth the effort.

Thanks for the feedback on The Witcher 2, managed to buy a preplayed enchanced edition of it from BT @ R180. Controls are quite something to get used too but enjoying it!

Yeah, but it’s even better once you get used to them.

I’m really loving the game, getting to the stage that I’m totally addicted.

Let me clarify though… I have The Witcher 2 on PC as well, and it’s brilliant on there, I just can’t play it because my PC lags at a certain point. I’m already beyond that point on the 360.

Hmm what can I say? Witcher 1 and 2 are really good games. The story. dialogue is all top notch. The gameplay isn’t that amazing though. Witcher 3 will most likely improve on that. Also, the choices you make in the game really can change the outcome of the games in a huge way. I don’t wanna give any spoilers but lemme just say that wrong choices can screw up the world in certain ways.

CD Project’s Witcher game is worth 5 times the money … actually, if they put a R1000 price tag on The Witcher 3 game, I will still pre-order it. It is a great series …

If they can hack the planet, they can hack the console.

Hmm I think this will be highly
unlikely that this will happen not even the first xbox has been emulated and it
    was based on x86 architecture

    They just need some incentive,
Look at the 3DS, while it still hasn’t been truly broken into yet (at least nothing substantial that Hackers have been willing to openly spread to the masses), Once Pokemon hit there seems to have been some substantial increase in effort.
They just need a truly a truly nerdgasmic game or something like that to get them all focused on breaking into the 4/One

You will be surprised how well hackers work together to achieve a common goal. Some will buy the console just to understand it, reverse engineer the software and build an emulator so that other people can play the console games on their PC for free and they wont charge a cent.

I actually dont like what im hearing as much as i know its bound to happen. Thing is many people pay legally to play these games and help game publishers etc etc, but with this. If this happens in a year or two max then the next gen software sales will drop fast and its sad cause the ones who actually prefer the legal route will suffer just as much.

Sir your completly wrong right after your first paragraph. Emulators take years to even emulate correctly at full 60 FPS or smooth FPS take to example dolphin emulator can play 97% of nintendo GC and WII GAMES but that took years to accomplish. The same example with pcsx and pcsx 2 both ps1 and ps2 emulators. Also don’t forget there is a woking PS3 emulator but depends on what you call working. Emulators take lots time specialy one factor they are made for FREE FOR FREE BUT WHEN they earn a helping community that can help with work and when finally finished they won’t fail you
