We’re still trying to get official confirmation but right now it very much looks like the PlayStation 4 will release locally this year in South Africa and that it will have no region locking on the console.
The first rumour comes from informal conversations with PlayStation employees and retail, not to mention that the PlayStation boss himself declared a worldwide release in November this year.
PlayStation has always been well supported in South Africa and as we have PR confirmation that the console will not be region locked there is no reason at all why at least a limited supply of PlayStation 4’s will land locally before Christmas.
I know I’ll be putting down my pre-order as soon as the retailers start accepting them. Expect a local release price of around R5500 that will obviously drop in the 2015 holiday season. Not that I could possibly wait a year just to save R1000.

Ja its crazy, everything the gamers has been asking for has been taken into the PS4. Microdof has really missed the mark with EVERYTHING for the next generation.

Indeed old man, work has kept me away from the promised land of gaming. But I thought I had to get my two cents in post-SonyE3. Dude, I haven’t been this excited for a console in years. I feel… like a young banana.

The only thing is the DRM and yes , we appreciate Sony’s effort in this regard but some of the Xbox exclusives are awesome…
Jim Lenoir (Banana Jim)
June 11, 2013 at 10:22
If they drop the DRM, then maybe… I really liked Dead Rising 3, but chances are that it’s a timed exclusive. Ryse… meh. Far too much QTEs, and I’ve never really been a fan of the recent Halo titles.
But… I liked what I saw about Project Sparks.

Good thing you making love to the PS4, If it was the Xbone, it would record the love making on the Kinect and share it to all its buddies at Microsoft…

Or or… you can buy both the PS4 and the Xbone, but just use the Xbone to watch you play and make love to your PS4…. And have a tramp stamp that says : “You wanna F**K on me”

June 11, 2013 at 10:12
I think Microsoft’s problem is that the console was designed by MBAs… greed guided them, and I’m glad the gaming fraternity rose up… 😀

Totally with you here. I was told that we shouldn’t speculate on what may come, and that we should’t get angry about it before we know. And while I agree about some aspects of this, I cannot help but feel that if we had all remained quiet, SONY may have done something very different. We all shouted, with one voice! We were heard!
Jim Lenoir (Banana Jim)
June 11, 2013 at 10:26
Exactly, I think had there not been an uproar, Sony would have gone the same route with the disk-locked account-locked DRM. I suppose it also helped that EA gave them the cold shoulder, and SONY went the “F-U” route.
But don’t discount the power of Kaz!

June 11, 2013 at 10:28
Agreed, I kinda feel that all the anger from gamers helped in telling sony what they need to do. They were taking stabs at MS in the video above, which they clearly made because they know how angry gamers are

June 11, 2013 at 10:19
Well, Sony has won the South African market – that’s for certain. The used games, lower price, region-freedom, and no online connection requirement guaranteed that.
And we all know Japan is all about Sony.
So X-bone’s only hope is the US/europe market, but considering the recent financial hard times, it ain’t looking good for Microsoft.

Just a question. Do you guys think, that it will be region free for movies as well. Meaning I can watch my non-American movies without a problem.
