PSA: Bloodborne’s Insight is linked to difficulty

Bloodborne tgs 2

Bloodborne is still so new and there is a lot to discover. What I like is that FromSoftware didn’t just give us a full rundown of everything – it’s been up to the community to discover new mechanics and elements. The latest one might just kill you even more; the game can get even harder without going into New Game Plus.

Madman’s Knowledge can boost your Insight, a stat that’s necessary for co-op. However, Insight doesn’t just affect your ability to shop from the messengers in the Hunter’s Dream or options to call a friend for a big boss battle. Insight can also change the difficulty.

Picked up on Reddit, it appears that the initial threshold is fifteen insight. If you are below that number, enemies will be easier (but by no means easy). However, over that marker, you can see noticeable differences. Redditor Anuiran even made this video that clearly shows how things change:

Now I definitely will think twice before using that Madman’s Knowledge. Insight seems to be a much deeper stat than previously thought. I wonder if those difficulty tiers also bring with them other changes – I see the Blood Echoes yield of enemies increases, but could this also affect boss battles, enemy spawning or trap mortality? One thing is for sure, I’m not going into the Chalice Dungeons with a high insight – that procedural generation might go into overdrive and become impossible.

I wonder how long it will take for players to fully discover all there is to learn from the game. There appears to be a lot more than previously anticipated and the game is a glorious rabbit hole for fans to fall down.

Bloodborne deserves the Hype and a place in your collection. You learn to overcome challenges a bit at a time but it’s so fulfilling once you get past a diffcult part. But never be complacent as it will always get you killed.

This reminds me of the time I nearly gave our director of Sales an arrow in the knee. Literally. There I was, during Team Building, doing the archery thing. I pull that bowstring back like it would make Legolas blush. Let rip. And Boom.
Arrow hits the target. Only (and I swear this on my momma’s grave) that arrow ricochets off the target, does a 180 degree turn and narrowly missed Mo’s knee…

The Cleric Beast really isn’t that bad. Its almost expected that most players will take him on without levelling.

Bloodhungry Beast on the other hand is a real ****!

It’s not the boss itself that bothers me (almost beat him on my first attempt yesterday) its getting to him in one piece without running pass everybody to fight him that bothers me.

That’s understandable. Just make sure that you open up the shortcut so you don’t have to take on those two wolfies on the bridge everytime.

            March 30, 2015 at 13:42

You can open a door in that dark house, just off the bridge (where the guy with the gun is chilling). Once open, one of the paths leads straight back to the Central Yharnam lamp.
