PSN down

Remember when everyone thought that we’d all be living out of the cloud by now? Servers and networks are excellent… when they work. Of course, when they go down it leads to all kinds of rage and frustration. The PlayStation Network has been plagued with issues since Xmas, and they still can’t get it right.

Throughout the day we’ve been hearing whispers of issues with the PSN. However, Darryn personally went to check because he was the least lazy of us all and he found that he could login without any hassle. However, it has officially become a problem.

The PSN status is currently listed as online but experiencing heavy network traffic.

I’m sure PlayStation will eventually get it sorted out and probably be forced to give us yet another random reward for our trouble. Unfortunately, I worry about the future of gaming with these sorts of issues. Gaming networks are constantly under treat of attack and servers keep going down, particularly when they’re needed the most. Digital copies of games become unplayable and it’s all a giant mess. Issues like these make me feel like old woman gaming – back in my day we didn’t have these problems and when games were broken we just buried them in New Mexico.

I love plenty of services offered by the PSN and other clouds. However, with all the frequent issues causing downtime that prevents a whole range of gaming experiences, it makes me wonder if there don’t need to be more offline options available for players to avoid throwing our controllers through our screens.

Have you been having issues with the PSN, or is life still smooth gaming for you?

I don’t nearly play often enough to warrant an internet connection. The other thing is, it is such a freakin’ mission to get Telkom to install an ADSL line. Third thing, how do you buy games over PSN? And does it work on the PS3?

It works on PS4,PS3 and Vita. The release free games for all three platforms every month. You can use your cheque or credit card to pay for games or to buy a subscription. There are varies other options to ADSL as well. Some people play destiny on a LTE network if memory serves.

Always online gaming often reminds me of when we first moved to an online system at work. I asked what happens when the system goes down. “That will never happen.” The next day it was down for two weeks. That is literally true.

Actually I was accused of hacking our company network once, the very next day after they installed it when it failed over the previous evening. The best part was the evidence supplied by the tech who did the installation.

Apparently I hacked the network to not work as proven by the fact that my IP had accessed one of the JHB based PCs. That did happen… the tech did it himself while I was standing behind him… when he wanted to check if he could access one of the PCs in JHB… to confirm the network was working. The masterful hacking technique he used was start-run-pcname. L33t skillz yo!

When I politely pointed that out he went “…oh…ja” and then stood there with a mouth full of teeth. Priceless.

“That will never happen” Famous last words spoken throughout history, Walls of Jericho, Troy, Titanic, Poland 1942, Phil Fish, etc.

What about the opposite end of the spectrum – aka That-guy-that-once-made-amazing-games-at-Bullfrog. “That’ll happen.”

Lol, we just had our network upgraded to 10gbit/s network – we asked the IT guy how long it’ll take to install the cards. His reply: “About 5 minutes.” Well, they hadn’t specced the cards to the machines, so they blew the MB, PSU, GFX AND the upgraded network cards, in 3 machines. Well that cost them about R30/35k and an extra day lost in productivity.

      Still funny. 😀

The people sailed forever aboard the Titanic…at the bottom of the sea.

      Every time I hear:

      DRM: Titanic
      Always Online: Titanic

Just Christmas was problematic. But so far it’s been smooth sailing. Will see when I get home. Personally I think Sony didn’t expect the 4 million plus consoles sold over the festive season to be such a burden for PSN. The cloud isn’t a lie, it’s just you can see it sure but step on it and it’s tickets for you.

Yeah, still that’s one game missing to the entire PSN being possibly down. So XBOX wins this round

If No Mans Sky doesn’t sell a hard copy, I will not buy, there’s no way in hell. Considering all the problems with digital only in gaming.

Want to DL No Mans Sky after purchase? NOPE SORRY CAN’T HAVE IT!
