PSN Maintenance : What Happened?

PSN up again

Yesterday the PSN was taken down for some planned maintenance which is never fun but the good news is that it is back up again and working perfectly.

So what happened?

1) Players will gain 5 reward points when they have finished a round in the automatching lobbies “SNAKE:EX”, “LIQUID:EX” and “SOLIDUS:EX”.
*The lobbies “SNAKE:EX”, “LIQUID:EX” and “SOLIDUS:EX” are only available for users who have bought the “MGO GENE EXPANSION”.

2) A new Survival Lobby “MK2″ has been added.

That’s it… Now could someone please explain to me why the entire network had to be taken down so that Konami could upgrade their servers?

It just doesn’t seem right so I wonder if something else happened in the background at the same time? Mass bannings on the PSN now?

Ehhhh general network maintenance perhaps? 😕 😕
I don’t know, just throwing around some ideas and to what the cause would be for this incredibly, ridiculously disastrous event.

I think you may have missed the point that Sony themselves said it was taken down for the MGS patch.

Why didn’t they just say “General Network Maintenance”?

Or are you just trying to find something here?
