Quantic Dream brings Kara to life in Detroit

detroitI am not a fan of David Cage. I’ve enjoyed his games, to a point – but they always seem to take the sci-fi twaddle a step too far. Cage wants games and films to blur the lines between them – which is an admirable goal, I suppose. What he needs though, is an editor – someone to sit him down sometime and say “hey buddy, you’re jumping off the deep end here.”

One of the things of his I’ve enjoyed most though, was a little tech demo and animation. Featuring an Android called Kara who was struggling with her sentience and, I suppose, humanity.

That animation is becoming a proper game. Called Detroit, it looks beautiful, emotionally engaging and visually striking. I just hope the eventual game behind it has a little more substance to it than an exploration of the mundane.

I am taking bets. How many minutes of actual player control per hour in this game.

I would bet 5 minutes of actual control for every hour of “gameplay”.

True. I give those guys a lot off guff because they make interactive movies but at least they get the story right most of the time.

I loved Heavy Rain, but Beyond Two Souls felt like a step back. Really hope Cage managed to get the gameplay right this time. Back then, his games were a unique experience, but with Telltale and Until Dawn doing similar things, QD needs to evolve that genre imo.

Dammit and here I was hoping for that sorcerer tech demo game!!! Lets hope its not as ambitious as Beyond two souls was supposed to be when he kept on spitting BS like “more than one way to do each mission” and “choice really matters”. Beyond two souls was a narratively written and coherently constructed MESS!!!

Most parts of the game didnt connect much like Until dawn (even if you did play in chronological order). Lets hope he actually delivers this time…

I really dont mind just how much gaming goes into this. It looks amazing however possible. If I look at previous Quantic games then you kinda have an idea of how it would be. Id enjoy this as a movie as well. The first demo gave me the feels lol something that most games cant really give you. Looking forward to this. So glad its not based in new york etc.
