Question of the Week is back, which means it’s Monday! Last week we had to give it a skip because I was running around in the bush with the Far Cry 2 developers, so I do apologise.

For those of you who don’t speak “Halo” or even “Counter-Strike”, the title is pretty simple. I want to know if you have ever used any knowledge or skill that you learned from videogaming in the real world.

Held your breath whilst firing a rifle for the first time? What about the time you impressed your grandparents with some World War 2 knowledge, thanks to Call of Duty?

Let us know your awesome story and you could win yourself a copy of Brothers in Arms: Hell’s Highway for the Xbox 360, courtesy of Megarom.

If you don’t write us a story then you can’t win anything, so do it!

[Thanks Dev for suggesting this weeks question]

I used to be a major Quake 1 player, so much so that I did nothing but play Quake 1, drink, smoke* and work behind a bar to earn money to do the other three…

One day at about 2am the bar was shutting down and I had to go into the kitchen to get some more glasses or something, it was dark and I was slightly inebriated…..

But my Quake skills came to the rescue as I flipped through the door, checked that no one was camping on the door frame, slid backwards to the fridge and suddenly realised the remaining customers were all watching me.

But I am utterly convinced that I am here today thanks to those awesome Quake moves.. You never know what may have been lurking in that room…

*Smoking is bad for you kiddies, Listen to uncle Lazy and stay in school 😉

Many hours playing Leisure Suit Larry taught me the importance of wearing a condom when sleeping with hookers.
And gaming in general taught me it can be fun to play with yourself erm I mean by myself as well (Honest thats what I meant)

Well there was this one day I was driving on the Ben Schoeman highway doing 120 in my volla, when Zume cargate came past at 180 km an hour. So not to be outdone i pressed my green button, maxed my boost and got a burnout going past them at 300 km/h . Fun times.

Actually driving down Jan Smuts in Rosebank one day it was flooded due to a burst water pipe as usual. So I’m cruising at about 70 or so down the road and this Audi just cuts in front of me with no gap, he slams on brakes suddenly as he realises there is another car in front of him. Nice touch off the accelarator, tap the brake, gentle nudge on the steering wheel and moved across without incident in the nice wet road, thanks to Forza 2 :-D.
Or the tactics learnt in SWAT on how to enter a room with hostiles in it, the slicing the pie as they call it, saved my chest from a pounding in a paintball game :-D.
The WWII knowledge helped me out one night at a drunken triva game at a pub, we didn’t win but we still got free drinks :-D. Gaming is just awesome.

I learned to drive with Gran Turismo and to this day I have to check myself if I just played a session of Forza and climb into my car straight afterwards. I tell my wife that I am going to drive like in the game and then she shits herself.

I used to play lots of PONG when I was 7. This helped me win Wimbledon in 1989. True story!!

You know they say gamers have better reactions and reflexes. Well here’s my story…

A few years back, I was driving down the highway on a very very hot day. The airconditioner in the car had stopped working while I was driving and I could not open the windows because of the sand that was blowing in the air.

Anyway, the heat got to me and I started feeling dizzy and everything in front of me started spinning and for a split second I had make my min up whether I am dizzy or the car is actually rolling. So I closed my eyes, used my reactions that I learned from racing games and I navigated the car into the emergency lane. If I went a bit more then I would have went down a steep bank 😯
