Rainbow Six: Siege gets a closed beta on PC and console later this year

Hi! We're from the extreme branch of the Church of Latter Day Saints!

Looks like Ubisoft’s cops and robbers games will be making a hard right for beta territory later this year.

According to one eagle-eyed person that is, as Reddit user j_dirty spotted a poster at the local Gamestop wherein pre-ordering the game would you get access to the closed beta. Behold said poster, in all its glory:

Siege

Confirming the news, Ubisoft told Videogamer that a closed beta test was on the cards for later this year on PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

“Yes, you can now pre-order Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Siege to get access to the Closed Beta later on this year. Stay tuned for more information on the Closed Beta in the coming months,” said Ubisoft.

Siege is currently in the alpha stages of development. If you’ve never heard of the game, then all you need to know is that’s tight teamwork in a cops vs. robbers scenario where you’ve got one life to make a difference. Stages have absurd amounts of destructive content to redecorate with bullets and you’ll need some solid tactics to survive the onslaught when your teams clash. As usual, I’ll be using my single life to hide behind the meatier members of my SWAT team and earn a +5 to cowardice, while taking the hostage away from the criminals and using her as my own insurance policy to get out of the damned house alive.

They’ll never see that plot twist coming. Game is looking good however! It’s continuing the trend of dedicated online-only multiplayer releases, and it just may be the next Counter Strike, a remark that will most likely have me shot down in flames soon.

  1. So, you pre-order, get beta access, realize you DON’T want the game, and then you are stuck with it?

Or you just don’t go and pick it up at BT Games without letting them know you don’t want it anymore… In 2 days time they just sell it to someone else!!

I do hope this doesn’t require you to play with friends all of the time like Evolve…

I believe that was a good choice! I didn’t buy it either, was even less interested after watching angry joe losing his mind over the “Pay 40 Billion dollars to unlock this new and amazing hat that does nothing….absolutely nothing to your character” I really don’t like the pay for useless upgrades idea….

I love Angry Joe, he really tells it like it is.

Yep, a good honest opinion about the game that you are going to buy, including a few exaggerated frustrated moments, but always spot on with his reviews

I believe that that is exaccery what they’re going for… which casts a really dim light on single player experiences as a whole, oh, and with U-*DON’T*-Play across the board…. Ubisoft, where we believe interactive entertainment should come with a waiting period…

Meh. If I wanted to play a buggy, incomplete version of the game I’d buy it at launch.

I would really like to see this game go places, it offers a slight alternative to the usual CS or even Battlefield player, a good one at that, but I really don’t know about the “always play with friends” thing, well not in SA for that matter, having the short 5 minute stints of having to find the enemy and the close quarters environment makes it look really good…

These “pre order” incentives really do save me a lot of money, if you gotta entice people like that to buy your game its gonna be bad guaranteed.
