Rayman Legends, the game that was supposed to be one of the brightest exclusive gems in the Wii u’s launch line-up was, mere days before launch, delayed to make it a multiplatform game. That pissed off a lot of Nintendo fans – but if it means more people get to experience its wonders, I’m ok with that.
Ubisoft confirmed via press release today that the game will be hitting Wii U, Xbox 360 And PlayStation 3 on August 30 – also letting us know that the exclusive Wii U challenge mode would be available on Nintendo’s platform…well, right now. oh, and it’s completely free.
Intended to be a bit of an olive branch to Wii U owners, the challenge mode will remain exclusive to Nintendo’s console, and offers gamers some things to do while they wait for the full game.
- A crazy run through the Land of the Livid Dead,
- Dizzying descent into the Neverending Pit,
- A fast and frantic sprint through the Infinite Tower,
- A synchronized adventure through Murfy’s Dungeon, a challenge dedicated to the Wii U GamePad where one player controls as Murfy on the touch screen while another controls one of the classic characters such as Rayman.
If you haven’t played Rayman Origins, because it looks like rubbish for kids, you’re missing out on one of the very best, and most beautiful platformers ever made. Legends looks to take everything that made Origins so mind-numbingly good, and make it better.

I’m still playing (and enjoying the hell out of) Origins. Tough as a nails but such a great experience.
