Have you ever tried explaining the concept of eSports to a non-gamer? It’s really difficult! Those with an old train of thought just can’t get their head around the fact that some people play games for a living. Even then, they don’t understand how stressful and dedicated someone has to be to be truly great. For that reason, I love all the eSport documentaries that have been coming out, as it gives some insight into the world of competitive gaming. Valve kicked off the trend with Free To Play, and not too long after, Riot Games debuted Road to Worlds. Razer are following their footsteps. They’ve unveiled their very own documentary.

It’s called Team Razer: Great Games. Like Riot’s documentary, it will be split up into three parts. Here’s the sneak peek of what’s to come…

Team Razer Presents: “Great Games”, the definitive eSports documentary.

GG. It’s the universal sign-off for those players who know they’ve been beaten in the toughest mental arena of modern gaming: eSports. “Great Games” follows 3 of the most well known eSports today – StarCraft, Dota 2 and League of Legends – bringing the history and the people of the newest sporting frontier into focus.

The trilogy follows members of Team Razer, an elite group of eSports professionals, and focuses on three of today’s most popular eSports titles: StarCraft II, Dota 2 and League of Legends.

Razer’s highly skilled players are revered by millions of people and attract huge in-person and online audiences worldwide, yet their command of complex mechanics, outstanding teamwork, and ability to multi-task at incredible speeds can make it difficult for people unfamiliar with eSports to fully understand and follow the action. Team Razer created the films in an effort to introduce audiences to the finer points of professional gaming, from the games themselves as a sport of the future, to the mega stars, mega audiences and mega revenues.

Razer are hoping to enlighten more people on the concept of eSport. This is something I think everybody can enjoy, gamer or not. Heck, I loved every bit of Valve and Riot’s documentaries!

The three episodes were directed by Travis “Samox” Beauchamp. Here’s what he had to say:

“eSports is a phenomenon that so many people are still unaware of, and I want to change that. Athletes from different cultures pursue their passion with these games, with millions of people watching, each player driven by a desire to be the best of the best. Illuminating the lives of these StarCraft, Dota 2 and League of Legends champions will help eSports novices to understand that ambitious gaming is not only a hobby, but a serious sport.”

The first episode will debut this Friday, November the 29th. The other two will be released every week thereafter. Be sure to keep an eye on the official page if you’re interested in watching.

I really think this is the perfect way to tell the world what eSport is all about. What do you think? Will you be watching Team Razer: Great Games when it releases?

oversensationalising this is going to ruin the documentary.
    scripting is terribad.

will watch, but it looks more over done than Free to Play was.
    I’ll probably throw up.

I really enjoy these documentaries – for me it provides insight into the “behind the scenes” which I feel we don’t really get to see.
