Reclaim your throne in Final Fantasy XV on September 30th

Luna FFXV

I suspected that Final Fantasy would launch after the Tokyo Games Show in September, presumably in October. Well, I was right about that first part, but wrong on the second count; Final Fantasy is scraping in just before October, launching on 30 September 2016. But we got oh so much more info about the game.

First up, here is a stunning new trailer for FFXV. It shows off Noctis as a light bringer, a last hope. Well, check it out:

I love the inclusion of the cover of Stand By Me from Florence + the Machine. It highlights what we’ve talking about before – that the game will touch heavily on themes of friendship as you explore the world with your crew.

If you’re like me, watching that trailer made you desperate to get your hands on the game. Luckily, Square Enix is actually placating us. Well, sort of. There’s a stand alone spinoff of the game that you can start playing now on PS4 and Xbox One. Called Platinum Demo, it features a young Noctis and is a separate piece of content from the main game designed for game veterans and virgins alike. It will unlock DLC for FFXV and is available right now, so you can join me in downloading it as you read this. And here’s a trailer for it, too.

That little pet/friend is far too cute. Squeenix had better be making a plushie of that so I can add it to my Square Enix plushie wish list: I need a chocobo, cactuar and now Carbuncle plush.

Speaking of wish lists, gamers apparently are getting their demands met. How will airships be integrated into the game? Apparently that awesome car the gents use to traverse the world can actually fly. Hmm, I’ll need to see a video of that too, please.

But there was still a ton more video shown off. A lot has been happening behind closed doors, and there’s actually an Anime and feature-length CGI movie coming, too. The anime is called Brotherhood Final Fantasy XV and fills in some of the gaps about Prince Noctis and his three comrades. It will consist of five episodes available for free to stream, and you can already watch the first one here. Or you can check out the trailer for it.

The movie is called Kingsglaive and has Luna Freya voiced by Lena Headey and Regis voiced by Sean Bean – I suppose we should all know that he’s going to die, right?

As if all of that wasn’t enough, there’s also a mobile game coming. A pinball game featuring the most iconic monsters from the Final Fantasy universe, it’s coming to iOS, Android and Windows phones, for free before the launch of Final Fantasy XV. And it also got a trailer.

So many wonderful announcements! I’m far too excited for this game, and also so please that there’s so much additional content. This is a huge world that they’ve created, and they are getting as much out of it for us as possible. Now excuse me while I go watch my download progress. I also seem to be coming down with something… not sure if I’ll be able to do any work once this demo appears on my console.

Hahaha, I was so tempted to pull a sickie….but alas, I will have to wait till tonight. SquareEnix is going all out and I feel they’re doing right by the fans, especially seeing as how fans have waited for this for almost 10 years. ALL the footage shown today was truly jaw-dropping and I am beside myself with excitement. Can’t wait…I really can’t.

Totally worth waking up at 4am for. Seeing Sakaguchi on stage at a final fantasy event was wonderful. They showed a lot of respect for the history of the franchise. Anyway, download started, now to get through this work thing.

Dude, during my morning Twitter read – all I could see was your tweets. Everywhere. Man, I’ve not seen you this hyped about anything, and you’re VERY easily excited when there’s anything with “JRPG” in it.
