I guess it depends on your point of view on this one, generally I prefer games that don’t have foul language, nudity or over the top violence unless a filter is available in the options menu to toggle it.
While we wait on a response from Rockstar about the toggle we can take a look at the reasons behind the ESRB giving Red Dead Redemption an M for Mature.
According to the ESRB we can expect to see
- In one sequence, a bloodied and mutilated corpse can be seen hanging from the rafters of a barn.
- The game contains a scene in which two characters have sex on a table
- There is a brief instance of female nudity.
- One sequence depicts a man injecting himself with a syringe filled with cocaine.
- Language such as "f**k," "c*nt," and ‘sh*t" can be heard in the dialogue.
Obviously I am hugely disappointed about the brief part and I honestly did not know they had cocaine in the early 1900’s.

“I honestly did not know they had cocaine in the early 1900’s.”
They did have a form of it as early as 1600, but it was never really used as a “recreational” drug until the later stages of the 1900’s (and never via syringe as far as I know… more in tablet form). It was actually first used more in a medicinal way, and then as a stimulant for slaves before becoming “recreational”.

Definitely by the mid-1850s, but since cocaine is derived from coca leaves, the leaves would have been used. I guess they could have powdered it in the 1600s.

I was under the impression that cocaine is a powder… I can’t imagine how someone in the 1600’s could have changed it from a powder to a liquid and be able to inject themselves with it.

It’s not cocaine, it’s heroin. Prior to the 1900s it was prescribed legally by doctors and derived from opium by Bayer Pharmaceutical. Opium was also wildly used during that time as well.

Who cares about the drug stuff, all I want to know is whether this will be the Good, the Bad and the Ugly, of Western games.
