Those of you who have been following us on twitter over the last few weeks must have noticed the sudden increase in tweets related to Netflix. This is due to all of us setting up Unotelly accounts and streaming everything from Breaking Bad to Strippers vs Werewolves while testing the service.

But Netflix is about to receive some competition when it comes to streaming via the Xbox 360 and that competition comes in the form of Redbox Instant as reported by Major Nelson

Redbox is a DVD rental company in America where you pay a monthly fee and they will constantly send out the next DVD on your wish list once you return the last one. But now they are moving into a new field with Redbox Instant which will allow you to stream new releases directly to your PC or Xbox 360.

For $6 a month you can stream as many new releases as you can watch, which if you add to the $7 Netflix back catalogue gives you a blockbuster experience for less than R200 a month.

At the moment it only appears to be announced for the Xbox 360, the dominant platform in America, but I would be very surprised if it doesn’t appear on the PS3 pretty soon.
