What’s old is new again. Borderlands: The Handsome Collection hits the streets today, and that presumably means a whole new set of players who’ll be jumping into the game for the first time. Well, as a veteran of the Pandora Wars, let ol’ uncle D tell ya a few things! First up, you’re going to want some guns! Big guns! The biggest guns that you can possibly find! And the best way to get those, are with golden keys!
Which are easy enough to obtain. Remember, you’ll need to sign up for a shift account in order to redeem said keys, which can be done right here. Gearbox regularly hands out keys through its social media feeds, so keep an eye on their Twitter and Facebook accounts. So what makes these keys so valuable, you ask? Easy: They give out the best loot.
Whether you’re playing Borderlands 2 or the Pre-Sequel, you’ll be able to access a golden chest in either Sanctuary or Concordia, that can only be opened with those keys. Inside, you’ll usually find purple and pink level guns which come with extra damage and effects. There is of course, a catch to all of this: The guns are tied to your level. It’s usually worthwhile to only use keys every five levels or so, to maximise progression in Borderlands.
There’s already some codes out for golden keys which are valid through to March 31, redeemable through Shift. And as a double bonus, they’ll work in the Handsome Collection as well:
PC/Mac/Linux
- Borderlands 2: WBK3T-BKW6T-TXTRK-JTTBT-C6BS5
- Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel: KKWBJ-6B5FJ-3JJBT-JBBJB-WWH6X
PlayStation 3/PlayStation Vita/PlayStation 4
- Borderlands 2: KTKTT-ZSFWS-R3CHC-9BW33-3JW3H
- Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel: 555JT-6TTX5-SFBKT-HTW33-T3F3T
Xbox 360/Xbox One
- Borderlands 2: CJC33-KHBCW-FHF6Z-C6JTB-F9395
- Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel: 555JT-6TTT9-KCFJX-CXT33-T3FBC
And another reminder: If you’re hopping over from old-gen Borderlands to current-gen, don’t forget to link your Shift account. That’ll net you 75 golden keys, which is perfect for those of us who aren’t able to import characters. Especially for those of us who sold their Xbox 360 and Borderlands 2 game, like some sort of impatient numpty. Yes, you are right to point and laugh. I’m rather used to it by now.

I used a simple HEX editor to get keys (so I have like 99 or something) because I didn’t have a permanent online connection, so couldn’t redeem the keys. Before I got internet, I’d buy a game and simply validate it using a friend’s internet, then play offline 24/7. I haven’t played much since.

To be fair, Gearbox were handing them out like hotcakes (still are it seems), and if I’ve used 50 keys in total it’s a lot. Less than what they’ve handed out.

Oh it’s legit – I did cheat to get the keys. Even tried messing with the other things the editor let you tweak (Badass points, skill points, etc) and ended up deleting everything and starting again because I forgot to backup the saves. Eh, wasn’t too bad though, at that stage only had a lvl 27 Siren, so was easy enough to get that back.

Let’s face it. Just using a Shift code (Even a legit one) is technically cheating 🙂

In case you were wondering, Uncle D is a real character in the game but he was known by his nickname…

There was an android app for keys that I used back on the PS3. Will check again once I get this.

Up to 150 keys on PC… just remember there’s a 255 key limit.

The Headline for this article sums up what it means to be a gamer perfectly. Love it.

I logged in with my old shift account and was not awarded 75 gold keys?

Ditto. Really, I didn’t have to link anything at all. The pre-existing link between Shift and Live was still in place and the games recognized me without any further input. But, yeah, no keys other than those from the codes above.

Gearbox just upated that they’re still working on the loyalty rewards, but they have just posted a new batch of Golden keys. 25 to be exact, in the new codes. I’ve updated the post with the new codes. Hope that helps!

You appear to have the same codes there twice for each platform (i.e. the update set is the same as those previously posted).
