If you thought that the little black box sitting under your TV was some sort of console powerhouse, then you obviously haven’t witnessed the power of the Nintendo Wii U.

50% more powerful than the Playstation 3’s mighty cell processor?

That is, according to developers who have gotten their hands on the new console.

While we all thought that the Nintendo Wii U was going to at least try and keep up with the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360… it looks like it’s actually significantly more powerful than originally expected.

This report comes as a comment from Arvind Bhatia, analyst at Sterne Agee who had the following to say:

“Some of the developers we spoke to indicated to us that the console will have 50% more processing power compared to the PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360. This is yet to be confirmed by Nintendo.”

So then, Nintendo has not yet confirmed the specs of the new system, but then again, that’s not really their style is it. They are too busy pouring candy into giant fun-o-matics to create new games in order to brag about specs.

Then again, maybe it would have helped out with their big announcement at E3 if they actually did.

So how likely are these reports? Well, considering how long it’s been since the PS3 and Xbox 360 were released, I don’t see any reason to expect anything less, unless Nintendo really wanted to save big on hardware.

So many gamers won’t easily admit that they only support certain platforms for their raw power more than anything else, and if that’s the case, and you want the most powerful console out there then you had better get used to the idea of booting up your new Nintendo Wii U every day next year.
