The Entertainment Merchants Association has just released a report on the previous sales of Blu-Ray and what they expect for the future.
According to them the PS3 was easily the biggest driver behind Blu-Ray sales and was the main reason for Blu-Ray beating out HD-DVD. They also expect the PS3 to be the top selling Blu-Ray player well into 2009 when the stand alones will start to take over.
However where I start to lose the plot is when PS3Fanboy start to read this as saying that Blu-Ray is the only reason the PS3 didn’t collapse?
Didn’t they just say that the PS3 saved Blu-Ray?
Either way, if HD-DVD had won the war I think it would have been the end for the PS3…

Meh, these analysts and their reports. Do they really earn a salary by pointing out the obvious?

Consultant: Someone who will take off your watch, tell you the time and charge you more than you paid for the watch to do that.

Executives : People who will sell your watch to the consultants so that they can report massive cost savings this financial year and be promoted before next financial year.

well… honestly, I would much rather have a ps3 with a big, beefy gpu, a better cpu (a dual core from intel, is that so hard???) and much more ram then blu-ray any day… honestly, I reckon that should be the direction for the next console to come out… make sure that the console is the same price as the ps3 (equivalent in price,) and just stuff as much power into the thing as possible, i mean, get the thing to just about explode with power!!!

Personally I think it is the other way around.

Do you think that a dual-core intel (at time of development) is better than the cell processor?

That Blu Ray saved the PS3 or did PS3 save Blu Ray

well… cost wise ye, I do… I mean, they were cranking out not bad cpu’s back then AND cpu’s aint really all that important, I mean, sure they do loads of stuff, but still, i’m sure they could have easily used something better then the cell… It seems like the cell is an expensive bit of kit…

Then why didn’t you just stick with the 360? They explode with power all the time 😉

Okay, try this one. Billions of Sony Marketing dollars saved Blu-Ray and the PS3?
Works for me 😛

possibly, but If i was a future designer for a console, I would give it a good cpu, but noting expensive, a great GPU so this is can pump, and loads of fast ram.

The name ‘Blu Ray’ saved the PS3… What a cool name.. Much more interesting than the plain and boring ‘HD-DVD’… 😉
