Resident Evil 2 remake wants to “recapture the spirit” of the original game

Resident Evil 2 will always hold a special place in my heart, in much the same way that unhealthy people sweat whenever they recall passing their first kidney stone. It was the very first PlayStation game that I had ever played, as I still recall renting a console from my local Vee Aitch Ess shop and deciding to choose that game as my interactive CD cherry-popper.

This was a terrible mistake, that left me awake for several days afterwards as I immediately imagined that all truckers were viral harbingers of the apocalypse. I’m a little bit older now, a little wiser and I’d like to imagine that I could actually play Resident Evil 2 without having a proper freak-attack. I mean, those visuals are so laughable, am I right?

Well the upgraded version might be one that I want to avoid then. Speaking to VideoGamer, producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi explained how his goal was to “recapture the spirit” of that original game, saying that development was “progressing” and that the experience gained from working on the first Resident Evil’s remake was an “incredible learning experience.”

[The Resident Evil] GameCube remake was my first project at Capcom. I was able to learn from more experienced colleagues and see with my own eyes how they translated their efforts into such a masterpiece that built on an already well-received game. “It was an incredibly valuable experience for me.

Also, Resident Evil 2 was the first Resident Evil I played. Everyone’s experience is different but I remember how it felt to play it for the first time, and the task of bringing that to the fans all over again is a cause of daily headaches for me. Work is progressing on the game and all I can do is ask the fans to wait patiently and be excited.

The Resident Evil re-remake in 2015 was also a valuable learning experience, as that allowed the Capcom team to fine-tune experience even further. “This fine toothcomb approach to the remaster really showed me what my predecessors focused on during the original project and that’s been very valuable too,” Hirabayashi said, while explaining that Resident Evil 6 is helping with progression on this remake.

Every title brings with it learning experiences. And of course, I saw a lot of the feedback on Resident Evil 6 and have taken on board everything I’ve heard from the fans about the game and I want to show you what it taught me through the next experience I’ll be bringing to you.

There’s no set release date yet for Resident Evil 2’s remake, but that should at least give me more time to once again suspect lorry drivers of doing…stuff.

They shouldnt make everything in 3D. They environments that was 2D artwork was amazing. Gave it that type of feel they want to capture.

The first game that scared me enough to not want to play it at night was Silent Hill. I remember being unable to grip the controller properly because of my sweaty palms!

Was my first cd game as well. I bought it with my PS1 but didn’t have money for a memory card so I played the first 2 hours of the game for almost 3 months before I had the money for a memory card. This is still my all time favourite game. I hate and love it.
