Resident Evil 4 saw a departure from the series standard survival horror roots, to a more action-oriented style of play. Resident Evil 5 took the action aspect and ran with it, removing the horror almost entirely.
Resident Evil 6 – not to be confused with the recently revealed action-heavy Resident Evil : Operation Raccoon City – will be different. That’s according to According to Capcom producer Masachika Kawata anyway.
“The series will see a complete renovation with the next entry on every level,†he said.
“But we can’t forget about all the previous entries that have led to the creation of many possibilities for the franchise. I can’t say if we’re going to make [Resident Evil 6] survival horror or a shooter, but I can say that it’ll be totally different.â€
I’m glad. I enjoyed Resident Evil 5, but only because I played it co-op with a friend. If I had to play that alone, with that mindless AI goon, I’d have given up half way out of frustration. Though many see Resident Evil 4 as the pinnacle of the series – and for many reasons, it is – I’d like to see something closer to the magic of Resident Evil 2, my favourite Resi entry.
