Revelations 2

Ever felt disillusioned with a gaming franchise? Have your favourite series of games devolved into something mindless, something that doesn’t have a patch on the original? That’s a statement that could easily be applied to Resident Evil as of late. The sixth game was a mediocre mess that tried to do too much, neglecting the horror aspects entirely for an action approach. But do yourself a favour and check out Resident Evil Revelations, which is far, far better. And then prepare for the sequel.

A sequel which is all about keeping up with family relations, it seems. Resident Evil Revelations 2 sees series favourite Claire Redfield return, as well as the daughter of Barry “I make sammich jokes!” Burton’s daughter. Here’s an entire list of even more details of what to expect, via Push Start:

  • Claire Redfield returns as the playable lead and it is said that “In the time since we last saw her (Claire), she’s grown to be a seasoned veteran.”
  • Moira Burton, daughter of the legendary Barry Burton, joins the main campaign.
  • The campaign will be playable in co-op or singleplayer.
  • Claire has a more combat focused style, whereas Moira supplies Claire with health herbs, flashlight and general support.
  • Claire will be the only player death that will result in a Game Over screen, with Moira having to focus on keeping Claire alive. Claire can still heal herself, however.
  • The story will take place on an abandoned island detention facility.
  • The campaign will begin with Claire and Moira awakening after being abducted.
  • The game takes place between the events of Resident Evil 5 and Resident Evil 6.
  • Much like the first Revelations game, Revelations 2 will focus far more on survival horror than over the top action, as was seen in Resident Evil 5 and 6.
  • Producer Okabe has revealed that fan feedback helped shape the game, saying that “The project has been finding the line between listening to fan feedback and also doing something different to confound expectations.”
  • Okabe also explained that “I want this to be both a game that doesn’t lose what made its predecessor great, while also bringing something new and exciting to the Resident Evil series.” He also added that “Achieving that lofty goal by bringing together past and future will make this an itchy-tasty prospect indeed.”
  • Resident Evil: Revelations 2 will have a new “Afflicted” enemy type, which “may look like zombies, but are in fact something quite different.”
  • Afflicted enemies are both fast and able to deal heavy damage to the player. They can be taken head-on, snuck up on and taken down, or avoided completely so that players can preserve ammo.
  • Resident Evil: Revelations 2 will run at 1080p and 60fps on PC and new-gen versions.

Now that’s more like it Capcom. Combined with the upcoming Resident Evil HD remaster, it looks like this franchise is finally getting its act together.

So first Johny Cage and Sonya Blade had a daughter now Barry as well. It’s bad enough all my friends are married and have kids now gaming as well?

I’m just happy it wasn’t Sonya Blade and Baraka that had a kid.
I too felt bad when I logged onto Facebook and found most of my classmates were married and had kids. It was quite a shock to find my ex-girlfriend had two kids too. It’s still hard imagining that frigid old cow getting laid twice… Anyhow…
As I sat around moping, my fiance came to me and asked what was wrong. I explained the situation. Everyone has kids and we are still childless. (Out of choice)
She looked at me, smiled and said: “You know what? Whilst they spend their nights changing pooped diapers, cleaning kots from their shirts and have no money to do anything, you are saving the galaxy from Reapers.”
One day you might have a little Steyn Hammering the place up. But for now, enjoy the freedom you got!

Still one of my favourite franchises. Did not play RE6 but loved RE4 and 5. Will see how this one develops!
