Resistance 3 coming to Xbox 360?

53 second read

Manchester CathedralInsomniac the guys who made Ratchet and Clank, Resistance: Fall of Man and the highly expected Resistance 2 have come out and squashed speculation that Sony was going to be buying them.

Ted Price, CEO, has said that quite a few people and Sony have approached them to enquire if they would be available for acquisition however at this time they are quite happy staying an independent. What he does go on to say however is that it was impressive looking at the sales figures of cross platform titles. Currently they are not large enough to contemplate it but I bet $50 million from Microsoft may help solve that problem.

So what are the odds of Resistance 3 coming to the 360? If Microsoft has a good year this year then I say the odds are highly likely. Money talks

Insomniac ends acquisition rumor, eyes multiplatform titles

One has to wonder whether RFOM would’ve done as well if it hadn’t been released as marquee title for the PS3 launch, with Sony giving it a lot of marketing muscle, bundling, technical help (including early access to lots of free dev kits) etc. I like the game, but it’s no CoD4.

RFOM 2, of course, should be massive, now that Insomniac built a big brand with the title, which does create the remote possibility that the third one could sell well as a cross-platform game.

I reckon they must be more disappointed with the lukewarm sales of Ratchet & Clank, and I can’t help feeling that game wouldn’t really sell well on the 360 either (cf: Kameo). I also wonder who owns the IPs – surely, as with Gears of War, Halo and Microsoft, Sony would’ve been smart enough to have tied the IP down for RFOM?

RFOM interest me alot. I don’t have a PS3 so I would be greatfull if it goes multiplat. I think the sony supporters wouldn’t be happy though

Insomniac are no noobs, I suspect they would have held onto the IP themselves (see Spyro) As far as R&C goes, I think it may would do better on the 360, it’s lower price puts it into family reach, BUT I don’t think that’s where they’d go. I suspect they’d more likely do a Wii port or unique R&C title.

Name an Xbox 360 family title that has sold more than R&C (it’s on about 800K units at the moment.)

If I can’t has a space marine, an Xbot won’t play it 😉

    Nevermind, did the research:

    http://vgchartz.com/games/index.php?name=&console=X360&publisher=&genre=&keyword=&order=Sales

In the top 50, the only real all-ages games I can see are Spiderman 3 (perhaps), Lego Star Wars and Viva Pinata, which have all been on sale for a long time, and R&C will probably end up selling as much as any of them in the long term.

I’ve got nothing against the 360, some of my best games are 360, but it doesn’t have a great track record in the all-ages space atm.

(and yes, I know VG Chartz isn’t foolproof, but it does give a handy idea of the general trends).

Remember there was nothing to play on the PS3 for months before R&C came out so every PS3 fanboy rushed out and bought it 😉

Anyway, that wasn’t the point. What I was saying was that the 360 and Wii still play to a broader audience, and will do more so as the prices come down. The PS3 still plays more to the AV crowd rather than kids.

The Wii is running away with the ‘family market’ and the handhelds (particularly the DS) and the PS2 are quite frankly still more important for the kids market than either the 360 or the PS3.

With Viva Pinata Party Animals apparently selling way under 100K, the 360 is clearly nowhere near the Wii in terms of the broadness of its audience.

And the games that are selling well on the 360 tend to be hardcore games – even the few exceptional casual games that sell well like Guitar Hero and Lego Star Wars appeal as much to hardcores as casuals.

The 360 still has a long way to go before it emerges from its ghetto IMO, and Microsoft hasn’t shown it knows what content the family market wants or that it knows how to market to this segment.

The most generic response to any ps3 related topic, give me a break!

    Rofl.

Calling it generic doesn’t make it any less true :p

    Besides you missed the point.

No the actual point was whether or not RFoM 3 would get released on xbox. IMO it will never happen, RFoM is likely to become won of the ps3’s biggest FPS franchises Sony will pay to keep it that way!

    *cough* *cough*

Who, “We don’t buy exclusives on principle” Sony? Sure they might, I just giggle at the irony of it. The flip side is that we know who’s more likely to whip out their bigger fatter chequebook . . . . 😉

And as a point of order, while the title reads “RFOM3 for 360” the article is actually “Insomniac going Multiplat”, so wah.

Well at this point Insomniac remanins pretty much a sony loyal company, so im sure sony would have to do a lot less in order to keep certain franchises in the stable!

    Hmmm.

Loyalty versus tripling your sales. Interesting dilema.

Tripled sales? At best, maybe doubled for RFOM, but probably not even that.

Haha yea trippling? Even by your standards thats a bit absurdist! By the time RFOM3 was to come out, the installed base of the ps3 will be bigger than the xbox 😉

Hey, I’m just using current numbers, most games sell 2:1 360:PS3, take CoD4 for example

Yeah Abe, maybe you’re right, but having another 5 million Bluray players doesn’t help games sales. :p

Doobi, thats what I am getting at. The PS3 will be known for its Blu Ray player more than its games. I’m sure the BR Drive will spike its sales now that HD DVD has been put to rest, however that is not going to change their pathetic attach rate.

2:1 isnt trippling cos the 1 was already there!
Yea but 5 million BD players that also play games does!

You guys aren’t watching the latest sales trends. Week on week, the gap is closing. DMC4 has currently sold marginally more on the PS3 than on the 360, and the two versions of Burnout Paradise are running neck-and-neck.

It’s true, that because of the smaller installed base, the PS3 doesn’t absorb the release of a series of big games one on top another as well as the 360 does, but that will change in time (as in, by the end of the year).

And you can be sure that there will be games that debut with multimillion sales in their first week later this year – Killzone 2, MGS4 and RFOM 2 are all dead certainties for that.
