Resistance 3 Ditching 60 Player Multiplayer

Insomniac Games’ Resistance 2 had a 60 player multiplayer; frantic, chaotic and a heck of a lot of fun – but still, according to many, less so than the first game. Still spilling over from the incredible information overload in the latest GameInformer, it looks like the 2nd game’s multiplayer will be ditched in favour of something more streamlined.

No exact number has been given for the new game’s multiplayer – but it already sounds like a fine return to form.

“The approach to multiplayer in Resistance 3 is to really streamline the things that were popular with Resistance 1 and Resistance 2,” said creative director Marcus Smith.

“Obviously, weapon usage is a big one, but we also have our progression through multiplayer, which is a lot tighter. It’s going to reward people as they go.”

“We’re also setting the location of all multiplayer maps in various locations around the world. During the single-player campaign, you’ll be hearing updates [via a radio show] of those battles as you’re progressing through the game.”

Sounds cool…but personally? I’m more excited that the game’s returning to the campaign-based co-op seen in the first game, and the return of the weapon wheel.

I’d love the campaign co-op and the mission based co-op. I don’t always want to play the campaign again with a friend. It’ll be cool to have both!
