When it comes to indie and experimental gaming, Cape Town is usually the hub in South Africa. Joburg also has some talented developers, but the community and party vibe of the mother city just doesn’t translate to Gauteng. But that cliché is about to be no more, with Joburg getting its very first experimental games party!
You can check out the event over on Facebook:
Do you like fun? Do you like people? Do you like flashing bright lights? Then coincidently you might like our experimental games party!
Join us for an evening of curated social video games and digital splendour. Even if you “don’t play video games” then this is the raddest way to fall in love with the punk and accessible world of alternative games. Don’t think, just play!
Taking place on Saturday, 16 April at Amuse Cafe in Linden (at an entry cost of R30), it should be an interesting party. Cape Town has had its Super Friendship Arcade for a while now, growing and becoming more successful. This sounds like a fun and interesting opportunity for people to check out the local indie gaming scene without necessarily attending a Make Games SA meet up, which really is geared more for game creators rather than fans.
We often talk about the lack of community in the local gaming scene. Why don’t we get more fun events, whether for AAA or indie titles? Why are the events that do take place only for industry insiders? Well, now’s your chance to get involved – go to the event, help make it a huge success and show event organizers that it’s worthwhile to throw more gaming events in Joburg. Plus, you might discover a new alternative, local game to steal hours of your time, or meet a new favorite local developer. Or at least have fun playing weird games at a funky party.

Do you like fun? – I’m a gamer. Duh
Do you like people? – I prefer single player
Do you like flashing bright lights? – I prefer more subtle colors in my games.

The amount of edge in the name of this event has made my eyes and part of my brain bleed.
