Return to Karazhan with WoW’s Patch 7.1

World of Warcraft Legion’s first content patch has arrived, and we’re barely done with the original content. No bother, it just means instead of spending eight hours a day playing, you might have to double it. The Emerald Nightmare is all but defeated, and while players are readying themselves to take on the Nighthold, an interstitial phase is now in place where you carry on with the story in both Dalaran and Stormheim. Two major content additions were made in 7.1, namely: Return to Karazhan (mega-dungeon) and Trials of Valor (mini-raid).

Return to Karazhan

From the moment of its mysterious creation, the purpose of this dark tower has been intertwined with the history of the Guardians of Tirisfal, once Azeroth’s greatest bulwark against the Legion. It is now best known as the home of Medivh, who tragically betrayed Azeroth and brought the unbroken chain of Guardians to an end. This legacy makes Karazhan a place of particular interest for the Legion, who have descended in full force in an effort to open a new front in their war on the denizens of Azeroth.

Kara

Players will recall Karazhan from the Burning Crusade where the Raid instance took 30 players throughout Medivh’s tower to defeat the bosses at hand. This time around, only five players are needed in this mega-dungeon, and that’s five players for nine bosses. You might also recall Karazhan from the Warcraft Movie where Medivh is finally defeated and remains “The Last Guardian.” The reason we are returning to Karazhan is because this is where the Burning Legion were originally invited by Medivh himself, who betrayed Azeroth.

Trials of Valor

Since Loken’s betrayal, Odyn has been trapped within the Halls of Valor as Helya plots in the shadows to claim the souls of his valarjar champions. In recent days, however, great heroes have arrived in the lands of Stormheim in the Legion’s wake. Hoping that their might and determination could tip the scales and end Helya’s reign, Odyn summons these champions for a final test.

Odyn

Odyn’s home in Halls of Valor has been a trial for defenders of Azeroth. In the Mythic Dungeon instance you’re put against some of Odyn’s best warriors to test your might against the enemies at hand. You find yourself aiding Odyn after Helya’s betrayal. During the Maw of Souls Dungeon you face Helya, but she runs away after taking considerable damage. Here you will finally defeat Helya and complete your Trials of Valor to prove your worth to the Valajar as a champion of Azeroth.

Suramar Campaign

Suramar has been the greatest, and most frustrating zone in Warcraft history. The story unfolds as you gain reputation with the rebel faction. It all leads up to the final stand against Gul’Dan at the Nighthold, but that’s not where the story ends. You’ve planted rumours, disrupted parties, and slowly began to build your rebel forces within Suramar. While most chapters within the story are reputation driven, Patch 7.1 unlocks a new quest line to continue your disruptive efforts.

Your heroic efforts in Suramar continue with a series of quests that unlock over a period of nine weeks, ultimately leading you to the very entrance of the Nighthold. Delve into the story of the Nightfallen insurrection against the Nightborne and their Legion allies, and you can obtain the wondrous Arcanist’s Manasaber mount. Look for the quest “Lockdown” to get started.

A number of balance changes to classes were also implemented as Blizzard continue the horrible task of making sure each class is relevant. Public outcry over some classes being bad, while other’s horribly overpowered has always been a nightmare for Blizzard, so with every major content patch comes an array of changes to classes. There are also a number of new World Quests available, and the addition of the Blood of Sargeras vendor, which is my favourite addition.

Karazhan, Trials of Valor, and more quests… This expansion just keeps on delivering.

Trials of Valor? Do I smell a Wrath reference?
