Riddick: The Merc Files is an iOS exclusive

Riddick

When it comes to movies and video game adaptations, the two go hand in hand like stupidity and a Human Torch cosplay entry made from oily rags and matches. Riddick games however, are one of the few exceptions to this rule. And the next one is on the way…to iOS platforms.

Available from this Friday, Riddick: The Merc Files is an iOS-only games that comes from the same folks who made Escape from Butcher Bay and Assault on Dark Athena. According to the press release that is. Read for yourself below:

The game features situation-based game play, where you’ll need to quickly adjust to every possible scenario.

If you are careless, mercs may find the bodies you leave behind and become alerted to your presence. If they do, sometimes an all-out attack may become necessary. The controls are designed specifically for a mobile format. You control Riddick with two fingers on one hand, making the game accessible without losing any game play depth.P

It doesn’t look bad, but then again, I’d gladly have paid cash for a brand new FPS starring the gruff voice of Vin Diesel. As for that DNA from Starbreeze and Tigon studios? I’ll have to wait for Friday to see if it has survived in this new version.

This is just the “Riddick app” that Vin mentioned in a recent interview, although it does appear to have been developed by some of Butcher Bay’s original team. There’s still a 3rd Riddick game being developed for consoles and PC, but apparently it’s in the very early stages right now.
