Ubisoft’s Rocksmith, which uses a real electric guitar and does its best to actually teach you how to play the instrument came at precisely the wrong time. It arrived after the faux plastic instrument fad had already waned. Despite that, it’s been relatively successful – and a new study has shown that it’s actually an effective guitar teaching tool.
That information comes via a consumer survey by Toluna Group – which found that 95% of Rocksmith players indeed improved their shredding skills.
We’re thrilled with the results,” said Tony Key, US senior vice president of sales and marketing at Ubisoft. “These studies confirm our view that Rocksmith is a huge success at teaching players real guitar skills that are highly effective, enjoyable, and will last them a lifetime.”
Ubisoft also revealed that the Rocksmith has sold 1.4 million copies worldwide since its release, along with a number of other interesting tidbits – which you can see in this handy infographic. I had some good experiences with Rocksmith, and it definitely makes learning the guitar more fun.
It was pretty limited in its local release – so not very many of you may have had the opportunity to give it a bash. If you did, did you find it help you be a better player?

Finally got a copy about a month or so back. It’s awesome and I’m enjoying playing guitar again, getting better with every session, sure.
More song though, please…

Nope, although it wont be too hard to add on this kind of functionality. Hopefully not an expensive DLC pack……

Never heard of it before but it certainly sounds interesting that I can plug my Ibanez in…Wonder if it’s similar to that Guitar Pro app…

Yeah, Rocksmith’s the only bit of instruction I’ve had with a guitar, and while I still suck, I am getting better, slowly. It’s simply a matter of keeping at it.
Tis awesome m/,

This may sound wrong but I wish there was one for Keyboard / Piano. They Gamified learning Guitar, why not a Midi-Keyboard. *ohpleaseohpleaseohpleaseohpleaseohplease*
