That's enough internet for me

We’ve already covered the idea that Rockstar is going to allow us to buy in game cash and how Rockstar clarified that it won’t affect the balance of the game. But now neither of those things matter as Rockstar has pulled the ability to purchase in game cash with real money.

According to a statement posted on Rockstars website the ability to purchase the cash hasn’t been removed for good but rather until the current online problems being experienced are resolved.

“For the time being and until we have been able to get everybody access to GTA Online and things are running smoothly, we have disabled the option of purchasable GTA$ cash packs. Players can however keep on earning GTA$ by pulling off Jobs and other profitable gameplay activities rather than purchasing cash packs. “

They’ve also given us an update on some other issues including the bizarre PS3 problem that only a certain amount of people worldwide were allowed to at the same time.

“For PlayStation 3 users, a PlayStation Network server issue was detected that was limiting the amount of possible concurrent users. This was preventing most players from accessing GTA Online altogether and as of this morning, that problem was resolved.

There is an issue that is preventing some players from getting through the first tutorial mission across both platforms. Many players have been able to get through this with repeated retries, and we are working on unblocking this for everyone as soon as possible.

This morning, we experienced some instability across the GTA Online services which is affecting even people who have progressed beyond the tutorial mission. We are identifying these issues now and are working to restore stability for users as soon as possible.”

The majority of people are still giving Rockstar a pass on this rocky start as they did warn us to expect it, but I don’t expect that patience to last much longer to be honest.

I’m about 2-3 hours away from completing the single player section and Rockstar better be ready by then else all hell will rain down and I may post a pissy article… you have been warned.

All the emotive and the gamer issues aside:
I admire this company, a lot.

They seem able to take quick decisions and stick to them. Also not afraid to change their minds, hold up their hands, and say, with the information then, we though that was the right thing to do.

Some dynamic people there, to decide so quickly on such, in terms of their company, big things.

Yes that may be true… but 2 weeks is a long time to test things, if some software products had these issues on day one people would loose their jobs because of it. They knew a storm was coming and didn’t bring a big enough umbrella.

Come on. Be real. Rockstar gave us a game unlike any other I’ve seen. As in forever. To fire people all because of teething issues on arguably the biggest release this gen’s multiplayer component is harsh.
If GTA online is going to be anything like GTA Single Player, I’m saying take a few weeks and get it sorted…

I hear what you saying but my one buddy his bro is in software engerering and said if they pulled stuff like Rockstar did for day one, they would be all out of jobs! you can run tests to check everything.. To get a much better idea, or hell should of used beta testers before or delayed the Online, nothing is more annoying than trying to use something when it is broken!

Tests in complex software that takes years to develop, where millions of people access it at once, and you have little to no previous experience in something this large?

Yeah, this is big for them, its a big step. Hell the single player alone was big, they then made that online. Imagine…

            October 3, 2013 at 09:24

I have some experience in testing software myself. But you cannot test for all configurations, scenarios and what-ifs out there. Fact of the matter is you test A,B,C and all is fine. But now Mr Customer does A,C,B and finds a bug.

I agree with you 100% but the part where Rockstar did fuck up big time is The forcing people to do Race 1st, I mean millions doing the same thing at the same time is bound to cause shit!

Depends on the application and risk versus cost. For instance would you have been happy if they delayed the release of the whole game by 6 months when new gen is released with the game only available on current gen?

Rockstar probably decided that everybody buys the game for the SP experience and took a risk with the Online component.

Nice thing is now everybody sees why BF4 is first released as a Beta for premium players. For them this scenario would be death sentence.

2 weeks is not a long time to test things.

A large project like this, larger than I have ever been involved in, has many, many perpetuation in testing.

BUT they had far longer to test then 2 weeks. How much? I am not sure.

I am sitting this on out till I’ve completed the SP. That rumour about corrupted SP save files makes me far too nervous to try this out until either:
      a. Rockstar release a patch to fix the issue.
      b. I complete the SP side of things, so I don’t mind if my save game corrupts.

      I can wait… I’m patient that way. 🙂

I know two groups she has gone after and they both took legal action an both got an apology and a small payout even before it made the courts. They edited the footage to make people look bad.

I think I was drawing a comparison to the tenacity of Patta and Gavin. Most probably I was just looking for a investigation journalist connection and just before the comment I heard Patta’s name on the radio.

Gavin and Lazygamers reporting on these issues have always been balanced and they’ve always promptly published corrections if they got any of the facts wrong.

Finally played it a bit. It’s a real problem that your character doesn’t talk at all. GTA was always about character development but seeing a mute just sit next to Lamar and not say anything is painful to watch.

Exactly this. With Guild Wars 2’s initial problems, Sim City, Diablo 3 – ALL of those were online ONLY. Which means people really had something to complain about. They spent lots of their hard earned money for something they couldn’t play.

With GTAV, there’s an enormous single player game with tons to do (or is there really not that much to do, and it was all just fluff talk?) which can keep the players occupied while they wait for the online version.

Most companies would charge just for the online game. Rockstar gave you both for one price. Just saying. Don’t complain. You got it easy. Enjoy the game, because you actually can.

Agreed. There is a shit load to do in the game and the online is an EXTRA. HUGE extra. Many hated on the initial idea of having a MP in the first place too!

Think this game would have exactly the same sales it’s had without MP at all. I doubt very much anyone would have said, “No MP? I’m not buying the new GTA then!”

Totally agree with you. You wonder why Rockstar want to tack on microtransactions and the like? I don’t blame them. The online is pure EXTRA in my opinion.

I still haven’t gotten past that first race on GTAO. I was having fun messing around with a temp character in solo play though 😛
